Hey Tommy, cool engine! The 406 used "long horn" cast iron headers, while the 1960 353 HiPo used the shorty's. I wish I could run either type in my '59, but like your application, they don't fit between the frame. Mike
Here is a '60 Fairlane my father built the engine for. 352-360 built as if it was 1960 and going to run super stock in 1960. The modern carb is temporary until the C0AE Ford Holley is back from being "worked" on. This one is only 570 cfm compared to the factory 540 cfm unit. The car is owned by Nick Smith from FL. and is amazing and yes he is going to race it. It was at the York US30 show and raced at Beaver Springs this year. 13.90s so far in crap air first time out and learning the car. It will go faster for sure. It made good power on the dyno too but thats top secret... 352 .030 over unported heads and intake with a stock cam. He did cheat a bit and used a 4 speed instead of the T-85 3 speed.
Is that right? My Hot Rod "Ford Performance Handbook" says that the long cast iron headers started on the 406. Maybe the 406 came with either? (early vs. late model year production?) Troublemaker427, nice car! Mike
I never saw a 360hp 352, but I'll take everyone's word for them being runners. All the other 352's I seen were pretty doggie.
I remember my brother in laws 360 / 352 Starliner had 90,000 hard miles on it before it had to be gone thru, 409 swallowing their innereds was common before 50,000 street miles
I just got home from looking at a 60 HiPo Sunliner convertible about 5 miles from my house. Original motor was swapped out long ago for a 63 427 with dual carbs and 4 spd, but the current owner for the past 20+ years has mostly assembled a correct 360 H.P. 352 to go back in it if he chooses to do so. It is for sale but its out of my price range, even if I sold a couple cars to buy it.
The 383 did not put out 400 hp. This was the 430 tri power Super Maurader that was advertised at 400 hp.
