I understand what your saying. Here is a thread about my father in law.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=420416 he was a TRUE drag racer and I bet if he seen this he would think its cool in its own way...I dont think he would say it was a mockery to his time of racing and living. Thats all im saying.......I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I agree with what your saying, just hell man seems the guy is working on what he has and its what he wants. I bet he isnt trying to make a mockery of those days...anywho either way its a uni so Im happy for that. at least he didnt say he wanted a ratrod...
Not all gasser class cars were built to run against the SWC Willys. This myth that they were all nose high straight axled supercharged 1/4 mile blistering racecars is total bullshit. Quit being a pussy & show a little respect for the man building something you have a problem with.
im not sure what the point of your whole rant was mr. Ruiner but i appreciate your input and yes at this point it is not an actual gasser by anymeans but i thought the whole point of hot rodding was to customize a vehicle the way that the owner desired? I supose if i wanted to loose all of my personality and build vehicles like i see in every old picture then i could perhaps please you a little better. And if i was not a full time college student making 7.25/hr and also building a turbo charged 6speed cadillac then perhaps i could make it go fast but at this point thats not top on my list. And i dont want to slam the truck on the ground like every other uni-body out there. BUT since im not building my truck to please you i dont really give a damn . i hope to continue to enjoy myself with this build considering im building it for myself. So if you would liek to continue to discourage young peopel from getting into hot rodding feel free to rant. But its not gonna make me think twice.
hey man I was taking up for you.........WTF.........hahah just kidding. I like it gasser as well but it would be my second uni...i have what I have always wanted. Man gasser it up...im looking forward to the build.
You're absolutely right, not every gasser was nose high and badass...and this truck with its drivetrain would get laughed off the track after the first pass...I'm not trying to dissuade you from hot rodding, I'm just pissed at all the poser-mobiles hitting the streets these days that don't have the power to back up their attitude...it's a push truck with a gasser's clothing...
Wow.... Ruiner.... What a big FUCKING PRICK.... Lets talk about your shit... First off... You have pictures of your tattoos and none of your cars, on you CP. And a th350 in a gasser...All the cool guys have 4 speeds....(rolling eyes). Is your Gasser built per the rules... And if so what rules.. cause they changed alot!! Anyway, I never reply to stupid ass threads but you are an asshole and pissed me off. Im gonna go wash you off me.... you can go piss on someone else for fun... EnFo
'65 rules, and my build has changed a lot since what was listed in my profile...also, the TH350 is only there until I get my hands on a Hydrostick...I can't clutch a car because of my bum knee, and autos were used as much as anything else...besides the temporary TH350, everything else is spot-on for '65 rulebook for C/G class...any more questions?...
FORGET all the b.s. and get back to what hot rodding is really about: MODIFYING YOUR VEHICLE, its not all about being fast or looking cool, that is just a plus side of the hobby. Everyone has different tastes and thank god for that because if we all built the same shit this would be an extremely boring hobby that we have as an elite group keeping classics alive. BUILD IT HOW YOU WANT IT, not many gasser F100 pickups around especially unibodies, if nothing else someone on the street might see it, ask what it is and become genuinely interested in this great hobby of ours.
Yeah the same general public who LOVES things like OCC and the Fast and the Furious, right? Any exposure to something even close to a 60's look is better then seeing another clapped out Civic. Ps... that should put me close to 200...
Thanks all for the input ive never really thought much of what others thought of my cars everything i have ever built has been a little off key to say the least lol. I am hoping to have the truck driving by this weekend so ill post pics some up.
Build it the way you want it, and as long as your happy with with it that's all that really matters. (If it were mine I would raise the back up a little, but that's just me, and there would be still someone complaining about it).
You all would probably hate me for what I did to my '61 unibody. I cut the roof off the cab, and built a full roll cage on it. I then shortened the frame and bed. Put some 3/4 ton running gear out of a '60 ford 4x4. That is as far as I have gotten. Thinkin' about just scrapping it. But for some reason I have this weird love of rust buckets. I'll try to post a picture of it so you guys can make fun of it.
Hey man, just wanted to say good job on your truck. I don't care if it's got the guts to match the look or not. If i'm stuck in traffic, i'd rather be staring at your truck than a stock one. When you're in traffic or running to the store, who gives a shit if it runs 9's and pops wheelies. Don't listen to Ruiner. His opinion is about as important to the hot rodding world as mine is: NOT AT ALL. "Our history"... coming from a dude that was born WAY after the real gasser wars happened. Keep reading your old hot rod mags, googling gasser pics and being a billy (not bobby) bad ass on the "interwebz". "Expert". -Chris
I've got a 61 F100 but it's a stepside and not a unibody but I like what your doing. Don't listen to the stupid fucks and keep up the good work.
oh for sure. I was planing on doing that while im raising the front. It is way to low how it is now. I have a cadillac that sits an inch of the ground on springs no bags, ive already got a lowrider ha
No way... OMG!!!... Actually I knew that, I just didn't feel like typing what I really wanted to say... But now I'm going to say it since this thread is still running... Why? All it looks like at the moment is a '61 Unibody with bad springs in back... And as for the box statement... I don't think anyone "in the day" would have used a long box uni... Actually I really don't think any one "in the day" would have used a uni... Maybe a plain jane effie, but a uni? me thinks not... But then again I am not a drag racing historian, so I could be 123% wrong... Or I could be 62.97% right... I guess I figure it's your truck you can do what ever you want, I personally would never do it... But then again I think it'd be cool to build an altered wheel base '64 Chevelle with an injected AMC 401... The thing that is starting to ruin this sight for me is somebody comes up and posts a completly bad ass idea, and people knock him because they don't want to see him ruin a "good" car... But then some one (like you) posts a uni effie with a lowering kit on the back and says it's a "gasser" and people think it's the coolest thing since sliced bread... I really don't get it... oh well... good luck with what ever you plan to do to it... P.S. I think it would've looked cooler slammed front and back on a set of mags or steelies with the whole patina thing goin' on...
I'd say that's actually an F-350 fender on the drivers side and an F-100 fender on the passenger side. You're probably right about the long bed. Obviously the long wheelbase isn't ideal for traction, but there was at least one drag-racing uni: Obviously the OP isn't striving for historical accuracy, but it's interesting to note that the F-100 XL doesn't have an extremely nose-high stance. Or fenderwell headers for that matter.
I've got a 61 Uni, and I've always thought it would look good as a 'Gasser'. I like what you've done to your truck. Keep us posted with your progress.
All i have to say is its called a build thread not a here is my finished truck thread. But i do agree that it looks like a weak rear sprung truck but thats also why i am fixing that lol. I also agree that not many people would build a long bed uni truck the way i am but thats the whole reason im doing it. Not many people would build anything i build i like it that way. Hey if i dont piss a few people off i havn't done my job I think i need to post some more pics so people realize the previous were a before hahah
I've seen that truck, it's pretty cool... Doesn't scream "Gasser" as people veiw the term (straight axle, fenderwells, nosebleed stance)... As far as the longbox deal goes on your truck, it's really not that big o' deal.. And I'm sure once the whole project is done 5 to 50 years from now it'll be pretty cool.. But at the moment it looks like a Lincoln Continental that has the rear bags blown out... I'd say to get the best bang for your buck, find a 302 and T5 (or an auto if you can't afford a T5) and shove that in it... Worry about your gasser look later... Get a good, and reliable motor under the hood.. Or hell if a 302 is to much, there's always the standby SBC..... But anyways I'd like to see where this goes, but get those rear springs fixed please!! Like I said if it were mine I think the nose would be about at the same level the ass end is sittin' at... Sure would look cool with some grey centered torq thrusts (like Malcom's effie) What's that ol' gal got for a mill right now? 223?
its got a power plant to rival shitty shitty bang bang lol good ol' 292 y-block. Someday it will get a solid lifter stack injected sbc with the richmond 6speed that is on my caddy. But till the y-block blows up which it will inevitably do im just gonna drive it. Plus it gives me time to build a proper power plant
Wait a minute, you're wasting your time building fenderwell headers for a temporary (not to mention STOCK) motor? And it's getting an SBC later? With a 6 speed?...yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and throw in the towel on this one...good luck getting all the thumbs up from the clueless mulletheads and "bringing people to the hobby"...
