When I started this project, one thing I wanted to learn was paint. I went back and forth between Twilight Blue and Ermine white. White is easier for someone of my skill level.

 

The firewall is painted. I'm happy with the outcome and I learned a lot.

 

Looks good. Always handy to have a new skill.

 

Looks great, I say job well done. That painting thing I fined you need really good light.

 

Finally got to play around with some of the fun stuff. Put a coat of cast blast aluminum paint on the Turbo 350



Dug out a convertor I bought at a swap meet about 10 years ago because the price was right. Supposed to be a 9", 3000 stall.


Went up to a friends gas station and had him mount up some front tires.


Hung a few parts on the firewall.

 

Nice, won't be long now, expecting to see some black marks in the street!

 

Nice work. I see you have a trans brake. I have thought about that but some events you can't use one.

 

Yes, that cast blast aluminum is really good. We used it on import 4 cyl engines and transmissions that we were building.

Some of the local bracket racers have their trans brake ****on removable so they can run the footbrake cl*** when they want to.

 

Mated the engine and trans.


To my amazement everything lined up pretty good.


Of course it's not going to go down without a fight. The cast transmission pan hit the crossmember. Welcome to the world of customizing.

Nice progress Joe. Looks like you have the same engine hoist as I have.

 

That was the old backyard hot rodding, cutting things out of the way.

 

Now that the engine and trans have mated, whe do you expect the little ones to arrive?

I've had that hoist for more than 40 years. We've been through a lot together.

 

Another milestone. I drug this thing home 16 years ago with no engine or trans. I wonder how long ago the 235 actually made it's exit.

 

My dad bought ours probably that long ago also.

You did a good job painting the firewall white. So what are your thoughts about the rest of the car. White exterior and blue interior was a good looking original combination. Yeah, I know you didn’t ask for anyone’s opinion, but your firewall looks real good.

 

Nice clean space to put it back together after all the mess it was to get to this point.

I was going back and forth between Ermine White and Twilight Blue. Since white is easier for someone of my skill level, white it is. At first I was going to do turquoise interior but the original fawn has grown on me so I'm thinking fawn on the interior.

 

Yep, I won't soon forget that endeavor.

Way more space in my shop now also. My parts shelves are getting cleaned off and it's kinda nice not tripping over the engine and transmission.

 

There you go, making a mess again!
