So the master cylinder on my 62 is shot. No big deal right? One phone call and a new one shows up... except it's wrong.... I call my parts guy and tell him what is different and give him the casting number off my cylinder and describe the differences....
My cylinder is a dual reservoir (like all 62s) except unlike the one he sent me and all the other ones I've found online it has a 4 bolt flange where it mounts to the booster instead of a 2 bolt flange. I guess it was an oddball design I'm not sure why they used it (maybe to get rid of the 4bolt vacuum boosters they had left at the plant all the single pot masters I've found for the previous years are 4 bolt) but regardless I have one.
Does anyone know if the mounting and pedal pushrod is the same for the BOOSTER for the 4 bolt cylinder as the 2 bolt cylinder? I can find cylinders and boosters all day long for the 2 bolt style and was just thinking it would be easier to change out the whole damn thing.
    Thanks Caddy guys.

  2. I have a parts catalog and checked out the master cylinder for the 62, there are two available for the same year as you guessed, the 2 bolt is a Delco Moraine and the 4 bolt is a Bendix, Bendix has same part number for 62 and 63 years, .... pushrods are different between the two, pedal and mounting bracket have the same part number regardless of which master cyl/booster was installed. I would say booster and cylinder with pushrod would interchange with a bit of tweaking on the brake lines....Good luck :D

  3. Yeah, it fits. Why would Cadillac use two different boosters with different bolt patterns? Wouldn't make much sense, manufacturing-wise, now would it? ;)
I had that problem with a 62 a few years ago, and replaced everything with a Delco style booster/master from a 64-66, bought as a reman from my local O'Reilly A/P.

yea not much sense at all!!! I've been working as a tech at GM Dealers since I was 18, believe me, this isn't the first or the last example of this!!!!
Thanks for the info guys I had found out the differences but wasn't able to find if the booster would bolt up okay or not, now I know, much appreciated.
