I’m trying to find a parts book for a 1962 Mercury Monterey. Everything I find shows a front cover like this, that doesn’t list “Monterey”. Does anyone know if this is the right book?
Here you go, look it up, just like the link shows. I'd say that manual covers anything you want to know about the Montery.
Yes but so is Meteor and Comet. How come it lists those on the cover but not Monterey? Or am I missing something???
Yes Monterey was the full size Mercury in 62. The Meteor and Comet were not full sized but they were models in the Mercury range. Why does Monterey being the full sized model but not being listed on the cover (unlike the rest of the range) mean that this is the correct book?
You only have a portion of the parts catalog for 1960 to 64. You have the body section that covers fenders, hoods, doors, etc. Ford went by body code , not name, to identify the correct parts. In the front of that book there should be a listing describing the body code to vehicle name. Ford has one of the best catalog systems (the same company that developed Montgomert Wards catalogs was hired by Henry to developed his too) and is pretty simple to figure out. All of that info is in the front of the first section of the catalogs.
Thanks. I know that pic was just the one section, the other section’s title page is basically the same too. I did a load of searching and eventual found somewhere that shows more than just the first couple of inside pages and when you get to the body code bit it does show the Monterey. Still no idea why it lists some models and not others. Unless the Meteor and Comet were intended to be their own lines in ‘62. Didn’t they sell Meteor as a brand in Canada?? https://www.lincolnoldparts.com/parts-books So used to Chevys got to get my head around the Ford stuff now.
Does FoMoCo use the same part numbers across different brands? So will the same part used on a Lincoln, Ford and Mercury have the same part number?
@Oneball, look up Mercury Monterey on wikipedia and you will get all the information you require there, including the design changes between the 1962 and 1963 models. There are descriptions and pictures of every Monterey model and all the changes from 1950 to 1974. As for your previous question about part numbers, the answer is not necessarily. Some parts interchange, some don't. You have to be specific.
Thank you for taking the time to reply but I think you’ve misread both my questions. The parts book question was just simply “is it the right one?” Wikipedia does not answer that. I was just concerned that the cover listed other models but not Monterey. The second I think I’ve answered (it’s yes) but I’ll try to be clearer. If exactly the same part is used on a Ford and a Mercury, will it have exactly the same part number if you asked at your Ford or Mercury dealer?
Yes, the part numbers will be the same. And yes to your question about the parts book being correct for your Monterey. Terry
