Hey..they are retiring the Space Shuttle..maybe you could get cheap spare parts..

  3. Maybe you should buy a different car for a first project.

hmmm.. I did put a 350 Olds +th350 in my first low-low-budget-build 61 Conti, since I bought it cheap without engine, and did have some junk layin around. Tons of work, poor acceleration. Wouldnt recommend anythin else than a BB,preferally a MEL.

  5. Maybe a diesel?

Send that Lincoln our way, with the webers you want to run and I will make you an intake. And it -will- be 'de-cluttered'.

Ditto on that. Seriously -Please, sell the
Lincoln to someone who can and will do
something proper with it. I don't mean
to put you down, but If you're actually
serious, this is one of most ridiculous
queries I've ever seen posted on the
HAMB. You don't seem to have even a
basic understanding of engines - re what
type and size and characteristics are
required to pull a 5500-plus lb. car around
or what certain mods cost or even actually
do to the characteristics of an engine. First,
a 302 Ford with Webers - and the appropriate
cam and heads you'd need to properly use
them, would make for a peaky, high rpm
engine with lots of high rpm horsepower, but
little or no usable low end torque. That kind
of engine works well in a very light car with
low rear end gears and 4 or 5 speed *manual*
transmission that will allow the engine to run
at high rpms and stay in a very narrow
high-rpm power band. It's absolutely the exact
opposite of the type of engine a 'cruiser' 5500 lb.
'63 Lincoln needs. Why do you think they used a
big, 430 cubic inch engine with lots of compression
and a mild cam in them from the factory in
the first place?? It wasn't because they liked
the sound of the number "430" or that they
were short of high rpm 'screamer' small blocks
to put in them! They used a relatively mildly
tuned, big bore and long stroke, 430 cubic inch
engine because that's the type of engine
required to make enough and low and mid
range torque to adequately move a car that
big. Secondly, you say you can't afford to rebuild
the original 430 engine? Just so you know, just
an intake and 4 Weber carbs alone will cost you
more than rebuilding the 430. Add to the that, the
cost of building or buying a 302 with enough cam
and head work to use the Webers and for what??
So you can have a complete dog to drive????

By the way, the late fifties MELs were designed with racing in mind. They were actually tuned down for street cars. The first ('58) model was still found to be too powerful so the '59 model was subsequently altered.

    Probably not "too powerful"....just too
peaky and rough running at low and medium
speeds for a luxury car. There's no such thing
    as too much power!:D

Well... not among this crowd, obviously. But consider the people who bought these cars new. Not quite the street racing type, I believe.

Not sure if you are still here but I live in Montgomery also. Join suicideslabs fb page plenty of people have done coyote Ls, and diesel swaps. Be interested in what you did.
