For sale is a 1963 dated Muncie M21 four speed transmission. Overall this transmission is in very nice condition. It is also somewhat rare in that it is a one year only casting case. The "1704" casting was a first year production only. In 1964 GM switched to the "325" casting. This trans has the 7/8" cluster gear pin. Unlike most transmissions of this era the cluster gear pin had a very nice tight fit. The information on the trans is as follows: Main Case- 3831704 Side Cover- 3831707 Tail Housing- 3846429 Bearing Retainer- 3741458 Assembly Code- P0401 (April 1st, 1963) Partial VIN- B212013 This trans was taken completely apart, everything cleaned in a parts washer, and then re-assembled with new gaskets, seals, and tail housing bushing. The bearings that came out were in real nice condition. I also upgraded the synchronizer assemblies in this trans. The original assemblies had a thicker hub, but a thinner synchro ring. Those thinner rings were prone to cracking under hard shifting conditions. This trans has the later style thin hub/thick ring assembly. The gear set is in real nice shape as well. There are no chips ,or breaks, and the engagement teeth show minimal wear for something that is over 50 years old. All this transmission need is to be filled up with oil and run.
