    Hi fellow Hamb'rs,

I have a question about my 63 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 I recently purchased. Well when I got the car home I noticed the 2 speed power glide stock ****** is slipping bad. It still has fluid in it so I was thinking of rebuilding.

Question I have is if a turbo 400 would bolt up to the stock 394 that's in the car. The 400 is out of a 76 Grand Prix. Would like to go this route, but any help would be highly appreciated on advice if this is possible. Let me know. Thanks.

Not sure about the Canadian built Olds but down here they had the slimjim which I never heard anything good about them,a easier to swap and better trans would be the 59 and 60 Jetaways.

So is rebuilding the best bet an is there a rebuild kit to better the power glide?

Sounds like maybe its a roto hydra matic 375.
Looks like you may need an adapter.

  8. Not without an adapter of some sort. I'm sure there's a late 371/394 to BOP adapter out there, but I doubt it's cheap.

The dual-coupling Hydramatic would bolt up and isn't too hard to find, but it may not clear the trans tunnel. I know in Pontiacs where the Bonneville kept the older Hydro but the Catalina and Gran Prix have the slim-jim Roto Hydramatic, they also have different floor pan stampings.

If it actually in fact has a Powerglide in it, then who knows, but I've never heard of one of those being built that way.

Hmmm, the later model "Jetaway" (from 1964 to 1969) is a two speed unit. Buick called their transmission Super Turbine 300, and Pontiac called them Tempestorque. It behaves like a 2 speed Powerglide, but is no where the same.

If you are set in using a Turbo 400, then I would suggest you contact Tony at Ross Racing (goatroper2). He makes a nice adapter that works well.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out, it is a roto hydramatic. Was told there is a linkage from the ****** to the carb and if not set or hooked up, could cause the major slipping. Still have to go look and I remembered that he had recently changed the carb before I bought it, so now curious on this linkage.
