I ordered new springs and shocks for my 64 Belair. I have changed coil springs on a 65 C-10 in the past. I did not need a coil spring compressor to do the pick up truck. I put the car up on jack stands which support the frame. I then place the floor jack under the front A-arm and "undo" the upper ball joint / take the shock out. Then gently lower floor jack and the spring will fall out like on the truck? Same for the rear? Place jack under pumpkin / undo shocks. Gently lower jack until springs fall out? Installation reverse order? I'm just asking to make sure there isn't something "special" that one of you guys could let me know before I launch a spring through my forehead.
While the rear springs will just fall out I think you will nead a coil spring compressor for the front.
I just did a front and rear spring replacement on my 60 Belair. Same as a 64. You can do the fronts with a floor jack like you mentioned. For the rears: with the car up on jackstands disconect the drive shaft, put the jack under the center of the rear end and jack it up a few inches. Disconect the shocks and lower the jack. The springs come right out. If you are putting in lowering springs you will need to "adjust" the D/S support bearing. Let me know if you have any other questions. Todd
Been a few years since I did my 64. Only took them out as bags went back in. Seems like I had to have the front up in the air higher than I thought you would have to. Could chain them if you feel they may get away from you.
