Hello guys, so I have a 1964 squire that the front drums have been removed on. I figured since half the work was done I'll do a disc conversion. Now I've found this kit ( http://home.comcast.net/~simplyconnected/projects/59BrakeDisks/default.htm ) but it can only be so helpful. I've tracked down the brackets for the conversion but haven't figured out a master cylinder and booster setup. I'm wondering 1.)if I could just pull an entire master/booster combo off of a crown vic or something along those lines. 2.)Would I be able to re use the stock pedal? Thank you in advanced. From the link: ".... This system consists of, a new two-stage power booster (MBM), dual master cylinder (Corvette), an old Mustang combination valve, and a ten pound residual valve for the rear drums.(Rear brakes don't do much to stop a car, so the original rear drum brakes work just fine.)"
That '59 Ford article is pretty good. But look up this kit: http://hotrodsandbrakes.com/Ford_Disc_Brake_Kits.html He recommends a few parts from Speedway listed on the FB2 parts list. You can also opt not to use the fancy proportioning valve and block off the rear port on the existing tee. Run a separate line off the master to a Jegs adjustable type proportioning valve that will go to the rear brake line. I'm getting to doing a similar swap in the next few months, I plan to either use those Speedway items or a 1973 LTD non-power disc/drum master.
with this kit http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Garag...-Mounting-Bracket-Kit-for-91031409,97949.html you can use an aftermarket 8" dual diaphram booster, http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-Brand-N...Parts_Accessories&hash=item27da073216&vxp=mtr and a late Ford F150 master cylinder with your stock pedal
On my '59 Ford project, I'm going with manual brakes and see how it does. But with front discs, you should use an updated master & booster if you want power brakes. I've seen disc conversions done with the single master, but I wouldn't try it.
