I just recently bought a 1964 f100 short bed.It has the 262 3spd.I have been told that is a rare engine in a half ton.Can somebody confirm this for me.
    Thanks

The 262 was a big truck engine in the early sixties. For 1964 Ford did offer them in the half ton also. Think of it as a stroked 223.

Yes it is a rare and desirable engine. Being a 1964 it is simpler to upgrade the distributor. A later 300 vacuum mechanical advance unit or even Duraspark can be installed with a change to the 262 distributor gear.
If keeping it stock....I would just keep the Loadomatic distributor and matching carburetor.

I am more than likely going to keep it stock.do you know the best way to lower this truck a couple of inches?

and by the way,, the 262 crank is forged steel,, and it works in the 223 as a stroker for a over square motor, good for land speed....
check out Mctim' Uni, it might still be somewhere here on the HAMB
