Hey All, I'm still working on my '64 Merc and learning more every day. My paint is finished but I'm still detailing it out. I have a couple questions though. First is there any way to shine up the old chrome without having it replated? I've seen those that say sand with 400 and buff out. No success with that. Secondly I repainted the fender skirts. They were held on by the stock mechanism that grips the quarter panel and two screws, one front and one back, to hold the lower edge in place. How were these skirts originally designed to be held in place? I can replace the screws but would like to be able to change the rear tires without having to use a screwdriver. Thanks in advance.

You can sand n buff out stainless but not chrome, use a good chrome polish on chrome is as best you'll probably get. Don't see anything wrong with keeping a screwdriver in the glovebox, don't think its that much extra effort. Can't help how they are supposed to be originally.
