1965 and older - Whats your most favorite GM cars and why?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Dustyoldbodyman, Jan 23, 2009.

  1. Alright - lets hear from the H.A.M.B. masses...
Whats your Favorite GM vehicles from 1965 back - as early as you want...
It can be for styling reasons, technology, powertrain, whatever reason.
If you could buy 100 of the most significant GM vehicles from 1965 back, what would be on the list (ya don't need to put all 100 in your reply, but if you really have 100 - pm me)... :D:D

    61 Olds. Beautiful car.

  7. '59 Pontiac - first 389, first wide-track, and how many cars had two pair of tailfins?

It would be hard to pick from to choose, though, I'd probably end up with a good 25 or 30 cars anyways, mostly 55-60 and 37-40 and mostly Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile. With a couple 49-52's thrown in for good measure.

Mine is a 1938 Chevy 2dr Sedan. I have owned it since 1978 but time to let it go. Too many cars and projects. It's in the classified section. I don't drive it much any more since I bought the 40 Pickup.

And no, I don't need to ask my wife!

'66 Pontac Bonneville convert (the only one on the list I've ever actually had!)

I'm going to keep this non-Chevy to avoid monotony for everyone's sake.

    Dependability
    1) '64 Buick Electra & Wildcats-First year for Turbo400 trans so you've got basically a maintenene free, bullitproof combination, to a certain extent of course.
    2) '53 Buick Hardtop (bigger bodied V8 models with a manual trans only) - The year was a first for hydraulic lifters, 12V electrical, very dependable car even by today's standards.

    Styling
    1) '58 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty-This is the 4-dr hardtop model with the entire lower rear quarter panel covered by a huge chrome or stainless panel.
    2) '59 Buick Electra hardtop or convertible.

I haven't heard of the kanardly for quite some time now. I know there are more of them out there than any one manufacture has made.

65 Chevy Biscayne...obligatory big block under the hood and delete plates in the dash....I love the lines and the trim....lots of "one year" stuff on that car.

I have countless other favorites too. But the ones I like the most, are the ones I own.

I like the '59 lineup from GM, Buick, Impala, Caddy, Bonneville, ect. They were (supposedly) a reaction to Virgil Exner's new '57 Mopar designs and they displayed the most fins and futuristic styling that GM ever put out.

I also like the 42-48 Chevy Fleetline Aerosedans, especially the 42 and 46, very smooth, futuristic styling for the time.

55 Chevy (any style will do)

    60 Cadillac
