there is no more beautiful car produced by GM before 65 than the 49-50 Chevrolet. 52's got the killer grille, but the 49-50 has the cool rear fenders, and 49 has the cool front license plate guard.

look at all these people going out in the cold just to look at the new 1949 Chevy.... I'd like to have that poster on the back wall... anybody got one??

58 impala. Gotta be white. There was a guy who rolled one around the excelsior district in San Francisco ...that car stopped me In my tracks every time. It just oozed cool.

  4. A 63 Impala SS is just about perfect in proportion so thats probably my favorite. But the 65 Buick Riveria is just about perfect also. It looks like a custom from the factory. All you have to do to it is paint it your favorite color.

  5. 1965 Pontiac GTO

    I owned several.

  6. Min88 tudor post is a 57 Olds with the 394/ tripower.

My love affair with the '57 Chevy started as a kid, my grandparents bought a '57 Nomad. My other grandparents had a '61 Olds Dynamic 88. IMO two of the coolest cars from that era.

  9. Early Buicks of the 40's and 50's, and my favorite is the 50 of course. Rags

  10. Who couldn't love the many GM cars already listed .....but how about GM backing for a cobra beating hopeful........It didn't work out but, what a neat car, and if I had the $$ I'd have one in my cave,.....over a cobra I might add!

Why?......cos it's an uber cool design which just oozes power and speed......and the lines just speak to me.....Do any originals actually exist?

I'm partial towards 1956 Buicks and 1962 Chevys.

  14. 1962, 63, and 1964 Impala Super Sports with 4 speed sticks.
I've owned numerous cars but never a 4 speed SS.
It's high on my bucket list.

    I'm working towards one now.

Since somebody brought up the stillborn anti-Cobra, the Cheetah, how about the stillborn pre-Cobra, the Scaglietti Corvette?

I might have owned your car long, long ago. This was mine in 1966:

  20. My GTO is from Wisconsin, I have posted more information about it in my albums, it sold new at Universal Pontiac in Kenosha. I bought it from the second owner who bought it from the first in 1977 for $350. The original owner now lives in Belvedere, IL. I talked to him after I bought the car. Yours looks similar but appears to have dark turquoise interior, mine is parchment. Nice picture, I bet you miss that one.

There are two others being restored at a shop near my home, one is teal with dark turquoise interior the other is teal with black interior. If you have your VIN I could check them out for you.

I was really kidding about the two cars being the same -- I sold mine 45 years ago, and don't really much care what became of it. I just made the comment because the cars were so similarly equipped: tri-power, 4spd, same hubcaps -- all the same stuff. It was originally sold in Southern California, and had a black interior.

I loved the looks of the car, and it was plenty fast, but I didn't like driving as much as I had expected (a common experience). It was very unstable at high speed; over 100 mph it would change lanes pretty much on its own initiative. It was also eating me alive in payments, insurance, and fuel cost. It took me over a year to sell it for $2500, a two-year-old Goat.

  24. I haven't driven one with those 7.75 x 14 bias ply tires yet but I can imagine what that was like over 100 mph :( I have tried stopping one with those small Tempest drum brakes, that is a different kind of entertainment or should we say excitement. Pontiac left out a few things that could have been improved and even they didn't call it The Great One until 1967 :) It is still my favorite GM car.
