  1. Unseasonably warm today. Fueled up and driving everywhere, first outing with the new matching shoes. Had a T5 found that used the S10 shifter location and was bolted up behind a Y block in a '61 Unibody. Thought I had first dibs then the guy who bought the motor took it. Back to the drawing board.

  2. Porting the manifold this afternoon. I made a drawing then explained what I wanted when I handed off the intake for welding then a few weeks goes by and instructions got watered down. Popped open the top tube and see it is misaligned inside. Almost no grinding needed on one side and heavy grinding on the other. In the end run it won't matter but, a lot of work to grind the one side with the cutters I've got especially when the dog is staring at me.

Driving the old pickup almost every day since late March until it started letting the sauce out a week ago and started spraying oil all over the damn place. Gaskets are failing - like all of them. Now going to do a single 4bbl type carb/mixer on a Holley carb plate with either a 420 Impco or a 450 OG with a metering rod to allow for a blow through setup. Have a T5 enquiry underway as all syncros are gone on my T18. I have to roll for every shift or shut down to go from forward to reverse. The fellow who will do the T5 is moving his shop so mid June for him to get back up and running. Was going to grab a rebuilt 240cu for sale locally to just keep it running while I rebuild but, now thinking I'll regasket and seal it up until I can tuck into it this winter. She sure is a star on my regular commuter route. Virtually every day someone follows me or asks about the old girl which has been pretty fun.

    Hey Will, Kinda missed ya!
The good thing about these old inlines is that there's only a couple places they can leak from. That side cover is a pesky thing. That sheet steel warps...probably because when they get to leakin' the first thing to do is tighten 'em down.
And yep, mine seeps a bit even with new a gasket, and sealant. Usually on a highway trip.
    Lookin' good!
Y'know reading a bit about others experience with the 240 makes me think it might be a more attractive option for a light duty truck. At least if you are concerned about fuel mileage.
Might even respond better to boost. A bit less prone to pre-ignition.

  6. Thanks Bread. Put scallops on a garbage truck and I'll like it.

Thanks Mike, you're my R&D dept. The local 240 is out of an Econoline pickup and sitting in a local Hot Rod Shop. $700 and it is clean and ran when pulled for a V8 swap a short time ago. My whole show should come out for sure while I wait for the transmission but, I've shifted hard to other concerns. With an impending move, last kid graduating, both kids leaving the homestead for schools. Perfect timing for me to retool my setup and grab another project. Will keep the truck though. I haven't been driving it but, I sure miss driving it. A friend just bought a '65 Long bed that I trailered for him. Another one hitting the road soon. He updates me daily on his all consuming attention. Keep on Truckin'. Glad to hear your rig is running well, albeit with the slight bit of drool on the new shirt.

Sorry about that. Their rules, not mine. Much like this place has its rules too

  10. Yes indeed. So you are the DIY machinist too! That Manifold is sweeet. Never heard of a Pierce which is also what makes it cool. Hope it all takes off in popularity, these engines could use some Hot Rod love.

  11. Been a minute. Jamming a whole lotta life into the last few months. Bought anew house back in August and have now relocated to Nova Scotia from British Columbia this Nov 2024. Kid's are both in schools out East and we asked ourselves, 'Why are we living in the most expensive city on the planet'? Sent our furniture on a 2 week head start while I tried to finish up a project. Sent my daily driver on the train 10 days prior to leaving to make it even harder to function. Last step was to grab a U-Haul trailer load up Clementine and do a 6000 kms tip to tip drive to our new Ocean Front Acreage. And why did we elect to drive, because of the dog. I'll be semi retired, until I find work, then hope to wrap it up in a few short years where I can then live rural, live happy, golf, ride bikes, travel and build another Hot Rod and possibly a motorcycle. Here we go with some short Hi-lights. The yellow Chrysler was a funny story. 20241024_171745.jpg 20241025_121925.jpg 20241026_105852.jpg 20241027_112901.jpg 20241030_204453.jpg 20241101_092934.jpg 20241111_175548.jpg 20241101_115846.jpg 20241101_102256.jpg 20241031_084743.jpg

  12. So the yellow Chrysler was in Quebec just past Montreal. I turn around to the fellow who owned it talking to me in French. At best I know Grade 11 vocabulary and he knew no English. With hand signals he relayed he needed a boost as he fueled up and was dead at the switch. I had jumper cables under a massive load of stuff so I pulled over to the pumps with my truck and trailer then had to thread the needle to get to him, jump the car and then back up between the pumps to get out of his way. Glad I could help and another car story for the road. Two things bring people together, a fuzzy dog and a blue pickup. I talked to dozens of people on the trip I would have had no reason to talk to were it not for the Baby Blue pickup. Took us 7 days and not a lot of side trips, stayed in some nice places except one spot in Ontario that I swear was the template for the Bates Motel. It was an adventure.
