ok so i've been looking for a 63-66 chevy fleet longbed for a while just waiting for the right deal. call a few adds in the local bargain paper today and call a wrong # but get the right answers. turns out i call the add above the one i meant to call but the old guy has 20 61-66 chev/gmcs. we talk a while and he running down the stuff he's got. a**** the list is a 65 gmc fleetside longbed but he couldn't remember but wants to say it a 3/4 ton. solid truck without the usual rust these trucks have. one small spot of rust and a dent in the drivers door but he's got another door that goes with it. good running 350 with an auto ******(cushy and utilitarian haha) says he'd be looking for around $950 not bad for around here and maybe i could talk him down a coupla hundred with time. he just got out of a 2 week hospital stay and i'm sure could use the cash. anyhow i seem to want to think the 3/4 ton had a different suspension along with the 8 lug drums am i right. i had already planned on whatever one i get doing the newer(70s i think front crossmember swap anybody got info i=on that as i've lost my link) and changing it over to 5 lug all around. is the rear still a basic swap? am i right in thinking this truck has leafsprings in the back? man can't go check it out til tommorrow and it's killing me. any info would be cool. he's got alot of these trucks so he may still have another option if this one ain't it...ken....

the other option is the '66 chevy fleetside longbed from the add i meant to call good running 283, 3spd(damn), but it has the typical rust these trucks are known to have. again i won't know how much rust until tommorrow. $650obo or trade for guns as the add said(haha i love nc). never expected to possibly have a real option and at a time when my daily is down and needs about as much put in it as it's worth(93 saturn wagon blown water pump /timing belt change)

I just sold one of these. Go to www.chevytalk.org for info. The GMC will most likely have the leaf springs. If you ever want to tow anything with it the Jimmy would be a good choice.

Finding an unrusted one is hard; good news is you can buy everything for them including whole front fenders. No complete quarters for the longbed fleetside though you can buy repair sections.

I bought mine for $400, the asking price was $700, put $200 in it and sold it for $500.

    Luckystiff,
    Are you ever named correctly!
I looked for one of these models here in Pennsylvania and just gave up after looking at rust-bucket after rust-bucket.
Maybe I should have picked a better handle than "Rot 'n Kustom!"

Go for the one with as little rust as possible. Unless you own a body shop, rust repair can be very expensive and time-consuming. Then you still have the hot-roddding to do...
    Good Find!

well so far 0for1. the "rust free" '65 was a rusty piece of ****. so bad i didn't even try to start it. ****s it was a chrome package truck but not worth but about half what he wanted. said it only had rust i the drivers door from the damage to it, but it had ALL the usual rust. drove 100 miles round trip cause it sounded like the better candidate and i only had time to get to one today. the search continues. oh yeah out of this guys 20 trucks you might could have made 4 buildable rides...ken....
