Hey all, I picked up a 1965 Plymouth Fury I with a poly 318 2bl and a 727 Torqueflite about a month ago. It isn't by far the first car I've done work to, but it is the first distributor/carb car so I have some stuff to learn about that. I picked it up for $1200. It has a pretty straight body with a small amount of patch work in the trunk and some work on the rear quarter panel (bad bondo job). It's missing a few peices that I'll be acquiring soon hopefully. I think they were going for a rat rod look with it. I kind of like the look, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it or go for a nice clean driver. In any case, I'm going to keep this as a project thread. So far I've just replaced old worn out stuff like struts and such. I rebuilt the carb which was a learning experience and had my buddy show me how to adjust the timing and set point gaps, etc. I'm going to try to acquire the few items I need for it this week (grill emblem, side trim, hood emblem) and then start on other areas from there over the next few months. In any case, I'm going to keep this as a project thread. Here are a few pics as it looked when I bought it (same as now except the front end sits stock height).
yea when i picked it up the frame portion that runs under the car was about the height of my camel light cigarette box if I put it on it's side. I will eventually take those stickers off. I'll probably end up taking the spikes off as well. I did however start referring to the car as Hank and it has kind of stuck.
killer headliner...not. U might try lookin at some bellflower cruisers (try losboulevardos.com), or do a hamb search for that kinda stuff. it wouldnt look too bad on the ground with some bellflower's and metal-flake. good luck bro!
I take it this kind of car doesn't go over well here. Just figured I could try to find a more active board than the c-body dry dock to post in sometimes. I'll go back over there.
You'll get answers here. Just some people are more sarcastic then others.... just all part of joinin a tight knit comunity. the cut-off year here is 65 and below, just do a lil research and see what direction u want to take the car in. I think it has potential
oh gotchya. I thought I was going to get ass rammed for having a 4 door hardtop boat with a small block. Just want to mention I didn't pick out the headliner; so don't take that as my styling choice. And sorry if the 'rat rod' comment offended people. I just don't know what else the look of primer, spikes, and moon wheels would be called.
Come visit us at the 318 Poly Yahoo Group - the link is at the top of this page: http://www.geocities.com/polyman64 We'd love to have you! Any questions, just ask us. I have a '66 (same as '65) Fury III ragtop that I would like to get out of my driveway and to a good home. Breeder has a 4-door called the "Golden Turd". ~Jason
BrandonS ... cool project! ... and if anyone gives you a ration of shit about the more-doors, just tell 'em: "4 doors, No waitiing!" Here's a snapshot of my parents daily driver 1964 Sports Fury: Pop's bought it "used" in March 1965 from Edgren Motors in Fremont, CA ... and sold it in 1970 to a family friend (that turned it into a Drag car) ... damn, I wish I still had that car!
I saw. Glad you found your... balls... man. LOL! I take Stromberg WW donations. If you get tired of it, and want to donate it to a good home, hit me up. I'll even pay shipping! ~Jason
Looks like you have a pretty solid car to work with. I've been fighting with my '64 Comet for over a year now. It unfortunately was a victim of the same crime that has befallen your ride. Flat black, red steel wheels, little spikes everywhere, really bad headliner, window tint, totally lowered and destroyed suspension, goofy pinstriping, etc. Once you clean all that crap off and paint it a different color, it should look pretty good.
Abomination: Mines a Carter. Kustomkarma: Yea I think my suspension is gone with. I've replaced the struts and it needs aligned yet. I want to save up and get a suspension rebuild kit for the front. Other than a few missing trim peices I need to find (and I just found the hardest part luckily). On the top priorites is the power steering pump though. Being 150lbs it's a lot of car to steer when it isn't moving.
Nothing wrong with a 4 door. Nothing wrong with a mid 60's Fury. As others have noted, it looks very solid to use as a driver. I wouldn't sink alot of money in it but by all means, get it road worthy and drive the heck out of it. (stay away from the spiderwebs and skulls IMO) Sticking with primer on something like that is O.K., just don't make it into a cartoon character.
I have a Carter collection, too... believe it or not. Seriously! And the same goes for those, too! ~Jason
