64 up to 72...sort of. 70 and newer are wider, 71 and newer are 5 lug.

P*** car rearends won't just bolt in, they'd need the perches welded on, and some type of mounting made for the panhard bar, which is kind of a pain. The truck housings have that stuff already.

(I'm making the ***umption that the truck has coil springs in back)

hoggyrubber, is making reference to the ratio, ring gear to the pinon gear, ie., 4.10:1, 3.73:1 ect. He is asking to determine what type of driving do you do. Do you want to tow something? Do you want good gas milage ect. General rule of thumb is lower gears probably better for towing. Higher gears better for fuel economy.

My '66 Suburban had a complete front frame stub bolted on (no welding) and a rearend from a later 70's Chevy truck, gave it 5 lug and disc brakes in front. I've heard you can do this with any 71-87 Chevy truck suspension.

Don't know if the rearend mounts are the same in the 73-87 trucks, so 71-72 would probably be the best bet if you want 5 lug.

Also, I've had GMC trucks of the same period that had leaf springs instead of coils, so look for the Chevy.

Actually each brand had both. Chevy was standard coil spring and GMC standard leaf but you could order the other style on each brand respectively.

I have a '62 C10. I'm planning to replace the rear end also. Mine has 4.10:1 gears. The wider axle isn't a bad idea. If yours is like mine, the rear end is too narrow from the factory. They look goofy and there's absolutely no room on the back side to go with a wider tire. I'm looking for a '71-'72.

yes you can..i put a 72 front and rear end in my 66 the rear bolts in track bar and all, what you wind up with is power steering power brakes and 5-lug system, makes it easyer to put all kinds of wheels on it ,your best bet is to go to the 60-66 truck message board web pages they know all the stuff it takes to do this....http://67-72chevrolet & gmc message board good people,I will help too.good luck....

i understand if you want the higher gear for highway driving and you don't "truck" much around. i don't understand why everyone wants 5 lug wheels and disc brakes. no criticizing just don't understand. maybe my low rear cancels out he need for the disc brakes since i cruse at 52 mph.
