Cut coils will work but don't use a fire wrench!,take them out and use a band saw or the old reliable hacksaw. HRP

Die grinder with a cutoff wheel works a lot better than a hacksaw. Start with 1 coil.... on the rears 1 coil goes a long way so be carefull there.

If you are going to use a grinder with a cutoff wheel, which is the best way to go IMO, go very slowly so you do not "blue" the steel. That takes the temper out.

  6. The rears on the wagon are most likely going to have a pig tail and if you cut the coil you'll have to turn a pig tail on it. It can be done but they are usually not just a slice it and stab it deal. the fronts are easy.

For the rears if they have a pig tail and you are not comfortable trying to make a new one after the cut I would say take the springs to a good spring shop and have them rewound. if you tell them how much shorter you want them they should be able to hook you up.

The rear coils on '65 springs are straight and fun to get in place. I did 409 rears in my '65 Belair with 396 springs up front. Those I lopped 2 coils off and the front sat perfect.

Bottom of the rear has pigtail.... top does not. Cut the top :)

  9. There ya go easy squeezy.

It will take a spring compressor for the front even after that are clipped.
