I made a recent purchase of 10 sheets of 19 ga CRS from Ryerson in Newark, DE. I had called to get this, and the sales person I talked to was able to get the CRS but was iffy on getting the AKDQ I had asked for. Lo and behold, one of their salesmen calls this past Monday to do a follow up, and I got to asking about AKDQ in 19 ga. He says they can get it, that it normally comes from another part of the country, but they have a shipping network between facilities. So given enough time for the regular runs, you can get it from anywhere it is located to a Ryerson near your location. As these are regular shipping runs they make, there is no additional charge for shipping in to a local facility from elsewhere in the country. Food for thought if you have a Ryerson close by.
Good point. When I called in the order, I did set up an account as a small automotive restoration shop in Southern MD. So it may involve setting up an account in a similar fashion, and perhaps a group buy so they aren't dealing with single sheets...
Here is a copy of Ryerson's stock list; which was copied off of the their website today. It shows all of the cold rolled steel and the spec's; which are at the top and noted below. Commercial Steel, Oiled and Drawing Steel Aluminum Killed Cold Rolled, Oiled ASTM A1008 CS Type B (A366 CQ)1 ASTM A1008 DS Type B (A620 DQ)2 RoHS compliant I've put together a couple of steel buys and Ryerson couldn't give me the price that I got from dealers in California. So if you are thinking about a large buy, you might think about that. The downside of a larger buy, is all of the work to put it together. The last buy that I put together was for over 16K lbs. and was split up between 16 guys.
I can hardly keep up with my east coast location! When I filled out paperwork for the account, they never asked for my business license, but I did wear a shop shirt when I picked the stuff up! You'd likely have to open an account or buy through a local machine shop if you have those contacts. Either way, putting together a group buy would likely help as they may not want to fool with selling only one sheet (for example).. But a local machine shop adding that one sheet to their next order may be a better option for small qty's
