2.0/2.3 ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by zimm, Dec 3, 2006.

  1. The turbo 2.3 L in Merkur Xrti's have a 90* oil filter adapter. There's an oil cooler in between it and the block.

Yup, my Merkur block has the adapter and cooler.

My '71 Van with a 240 six also had the 90 degree adapter.

madflow, checkout the link in my signature, I put up all the info about the Volvo head swap, while it may look cool, it's not really worth the effort (at least to me).

I was wondering if someone has a contact for a company out in California that makes a Model A modified flywheel housing that mates a stock A transmission to a 2.0 engine. They also sold a front engine mount. I have a friend with this engine combination in their A and it works and sounds great.
    Thanks, Dan

Anyone have a suggestion for a N/A header? It's going in a Model A. I am not too keen on the stock headers from a Ranger or Aerostar.
I might go with this one here except in the ceramic coated, unless someone has a better idea.

That header should do the job just nice. If you need more info on your engine see the link in my signature, all kinds of good information.

I just bought a Edelbrock Pony Ram intake designed for two Holley R-6467 carbs. If anyone out there has a pair available, I'm in!

That's an old intake, hadn't seen one in a while. You could adapt a couple of 1bbls from a couple of 6 bangers if you can't find a couple of R-6467's.

  13. I found out the R-6467's are based on the 1940's. So without any real info I'm not 100% my R-6467's have the correct parts inside (had 1940 gaskets installed).

Not really rod related, but a question on 2.3L transmissions. I'm putting a 2.3L turbo motor from a Merkur XR4Ti in my 1974 Jeep J-10, replacing a 4.2L (258) six. The turbo motor puts out more hp and a little more torque, but of course at a higher rpm. Still should be good -- its' a street truck, only light hauling. I have 4.10 gears and will adjust tire size to get the right cruising rpm.

The Merkur is a five speed, but I really want a five speed 4x4 trans. Stopped making four cylinder Range 4x4s in 1996, so that trans is hard to find. Will a 3.0L trans fit? Will anything else fit?? I have found an adapter for a SBF trans.. may have to go that route.

Yes, I could make it 2WD, but it's a Jeep. Even if I hardly ever used 4WD it should have it...

  15. The 2.3 has a unique bellhousing pattern that only fits the 2.3 and 2.5.

That's what I was afraid of. No one on The Ranger Station seems to mess with or know anything about the 2.3L. Or there's no one who will answer. Had a post up there a couple days now, maybe I'll get something later.

I have run across a $185 adaptor for a SBF trans. If I have no luck finding an 88-96 Ranger 4x4 tranny that might be the way I go.

In the mean time, if someone has a 88-96 (preferred, but will consider earlier) Ranger 4x4 2.3L five speed and transfer case that isn't too far from central South Carolina let me know!! Might be worth having it shipped...

  18. Try turboford.org

  19. I put a 2.0 Pinto and 4 speed in a glass '29 Ford Roadster back around 1980. Installed a Crowler cam and header for a little more pep. Is Crowler still in business?

  20. I think you mean Crower - and yes they are.

  21. Gotta keep this thread going.....I found an old Esslinger modified head for the EOA 2.0.

Sweet man! Because you woke it up from the dead, I'll post my 2.3.

Just had the header built. Still has fuel injection. Blocked off the EGR port and had them add the O2 sensor to an offset bung on the last header. Also added 4 Harley baffles to each one. This is the dual spark plug head, so we modded the ignition to fire both plugs at the same time.

I still have to trim my hood side to fit.
