Lets say a guy has a complete 4wd drivetrain that he wants to use- frame, trans, etc that is for a Ford 2.9V6, but he wants to put in a SBC, but doesn't need the hassles of changing gearboxes, then creating new driveshafts (times two as it's 4wd), mounts etc.

Does anyone know about the commonality of the 2.9 pattern? Ie what else it might be the same as to help widen my search? I'm told almost nothing is the same...

Any known adapters? I know there are adapters SBF to this trans (AdvanceAdapters) and there are SBF to SBC adapters, but I don't think I'd have enough "exposed" input shaft to double up adapters, and it seems kind of cheezy to do so...

    any suggestions?

  2. get a 4x4 s-10/s-10 blazer with a 4.3, problem solved. you could probably pick up an older one with a blown motor for $500 bucks or less which is about what it would cost to adapt a SBC to that thing

This isn't a Bronco. It's a kind of bodied sand rail for the street.

My fault for the way I worded it. Just seemed simpler to explain. I have these parts. I have my reasons to want to keep 'em as an assembly but change motors. Most people here have been in the same situation, though my particular part selection is a little in left field

Just get the SBF adapter then STOP! Or does your sanctioning body "require" you to run an sbc? There's a lot of entitys that outlaw Fords to help chevy's hang. Or at least they outlaw the Ford stuff they know is better. Examples: NHRA Top Fuel, Funny Car, TAD and TAF and any number of oval track sportsman classes where the sbc is king and the Cleveland Fords are banned to keep it that way.

if it's a 5 speed, it ain't gonna matter whether you WANT to change gearboxes, they don't hold up to the 2.9's;)

and if it has electronic transfer case, figure on a shift motor...
