I just hapen to have watched this last night from my old copy from VH1 movies that rock and james Taylor said that the director wouldn't let them read more than one sceen at a time because he didn't want the actors to know where the film was going. He wanted it to have a documetry film feel and he made them do each sceen over and over untill all of there enthusiam was gone. By the way the film is highly regauarded with the artsy fasrtsy film types and was shown and the Robert Redford sundance film festival a few years ago. I may just go out and cut up my '55? :D

Go ahead, rag on the movie. I think alot of you read too much into it or, wish you could. It's just not there, enjoy it for what it is. Personally, I look at the movie like a mocumentary. If I didn't know better, I'd swear this film was about my uncle and his friend Tony and their experiences in the late 60's early 70's. As a little kid, I thought these guys were the coolest, and it definately wasn't because of their witty dialogue. They usually didn't say much but they always had the coolest hot rods and there was always a girl or two hanging around. First time I saw this movie, I could totally relate.

They have it in VHS on their site for $19.95, and have it on DVD in their catalog for $29.95. I've bought from these guys and they are good to deal with.

I happen to have tons of pics of the number 2 camera car. Detail shots. I was lucky enough to become friends with the owner and scored a ride.

Here is a link to my site that has some pics of it from last year at a get together in Maryland.

re: LAME roger that...now you know why Wilson and Taylor kept playing/singing and made no more movies. The whole premise was stupid...drag race one day, and then drive a few hundred miles and circle track it? Dialogue and delivery were absolutely the worst. My oldest son gifted me with a DVD of it a few years back, but I haven't watched it since.

Yes I agree, the flick blew dog. But yeah man the cars. All of em were cool. I think the girl runs off with a dude on a sportster doesn't she? Even a cool scooter to check out. Lots of background cars to enjoy too if I remember right.

I watched it again today for the ten thousanth time ,and i still cant figure out why they stopped at a road side rest area to take off there slicks to put on another pair.Lots of other weird shit too ,like the mechanic getting a piece of that hitchhiker chick and his friend the driver dont ,even after she throws herself at him ,was he a fruit or something? How about the part where they are driving in the pouring rain with no inner fenders and no breathers on the carbs?Still alot of awesome cars in the movie though.

He was more than likely wounded by a lady, his silence and his distance shows evidence of that. The awkward conversation about the cicadas. He was tired ,his soul was tired. Perhaps it is also what drove him. The car was his girlfreind

The last a time a lil girl burned me, it stung. Big Chief No Cry, but that pain stuck in my stomach for weeks. Then shortly after this very nice young lady kinda acted like she liked me. She was very pretty (a white/indian girl with light brown skin) I could barely carry on a conversation with her, I had nothing to say nothing to give.

I've always saw it as a art house movie first and foremost, it's just the topic was about cars. I agree that the car was the star, I think that was on purpose. The acting was kinda lame, but I honestly think so on purpose too, because like said, it was a mock documentary. In real life, people aren't always witty or slick, and definately not always entertaining. It's a really good movie when you think of it as an experiment on film, and if you enjoy those kinda things. Personally, I think it's a friggin brilliant movie.

That sums it up right there, would make for an excellent back cover blurb.

Back to my previous point.....about the solemn Driver.......remember the the song by Neil Diamond "Solitary Man" or the Simon and Garfunkel epoch about being a rock and and sheilded in armor from love yadda yadda........thats the Driver right there....
