4064? well I am here everyday but Sunday hardly ever log on but most of the information had me changing direction from (SBC-BBC) to the earlier motors (CAD 365/390)and someday hope to get it all together
wow only 18% are registered users. thats amazing as fast as this thing moves. the early days weren't too much different than now as far as the flaming goes. you were fine until you said somthing stupid, as everyone did somtimes. it was more of a tool to weed out the wanna be's more than anything else. it was alot less tolerent of ot stuff i think. seems we talked alot more about building cars than car shows and stuff. could be just fuzzy memory.
I lurked for a couple of years before finally steping up and registering. Like others have said, I tried to come up with a witty intro with PICS before taking the plunge, but finally just posted something to join the fun.
I must be getting old #3128 and far less tolerant... I spend less and less time on the main pages "sorting" through the drivel and more time in a select few social groups or searching for specific technical answers. I appreciate the motivation, technical help and the entertainment, thanks everyone.
200,000 hambsters? Let's see... being #680 means I have inspected 199,320 grenades in the past 10 years. Another few hundred thousand or so and I'll start to feel comfortable.. It's been a great ride, thanks Ryan.
Everything you said applies to me exactly. Sometimes I get frustrated "sorting" through the drivel One of the moderators, I think it was metalshapes, said that 90 percent of the HAMB is off topic. Wouldnt it be nice if we had a sub forum for traditional hotrods and customs only!
I wonder of those 200k..... how many are active (actually post on the board), how many are banned, and how many have drivable hot rods?
I'm pretty sure I never said that. Off Topic stuff is always a problem, and we had plenty of it in the HAMB's early days too. If anything, it was dealt with a bit differently back then. The HAMB was a smaller, more intimate place. And the Users on it seemed to have thicker skin. Now it seems we have lots of ultra sensitive people that get completely bent out of shape when their O/T stuff gets Closed or Deleted. But thanks to the Users who post good quality content, (and maybe a bit because of the O/T stuff that the Mods get rid off too,) I think that the Ratio between Off Topic and On Topic content is pretty damn good...
I do searches daily, while doing this I will see an avatar/user name that I have never seen before, I check out their page and see they were online that day but their last post will be years prior? I find this to be the case many times when checking out someones page, as well as not having been on here for years. Did they die? Are they in jail? Did they just decide that the HAMB just wasn't for them? While going through old threads I see banned members too, I have probably seen 50 since I have been a member.
Here is part of your answer. I don't have a drivable car these days, I don't have any transportaion at all when you get right down to it. So I guess if you decide to take up a count I am to be counted as one without. But I haven't been banned yet. Oh the new thing on the 21st century HAMB is to be mad at someone for being too active. That trend will probably go away when a new thing to me mad about comes along.
I'm 61346, I lurked for about a year and then decided to join. I seem to get addicted to the HAMB for a couple months and then take a break for a couple months....
Ha Ha! Great, he has Gomez on one side of him and Herman on the other. Now we know where they got the saying "there goes the neighborhood"!
Here's a thought............ I realize that some of us can be comedians on the H.A.M.B. with a little tongue & cheek here and there to lighten things up a bit. I also know that others on here are as serious as a heart attack. What I'd like to know is where does it say in the rules that you must have a vehicle and where does it say that you shouldn't put your 2 cents in??? The last time I checked, the rules basically said that the H.A.M.B. wants its members to spread the gospel of hot rodding. Just because someone doesn't currently have a "traditional" rod or a vehicle at all doesn't mean they either haven't "been there and done that" or have the knowledge and background to make a statement. As far as post counts go..... Well there are many reasons for high post counts but I don't see too many for low post counts. Having a high post count (IMHO) means that you are involved. Maybe it's someone like Jim (Squirrel) who's a wealth of knowledge and has over 20,000 posts. Maybe it's someone that does those "tongue & cheek" posts to lighten up moments or maybe it's someone that's a little bit of both, helpful and entertaining. I personally would rather have a bunch of those "active" guys here than the guys who just sit on their ass and contribute absolutely nothing except the occasional "once every 6 months" post complaining about something. If you call yourself a member.... Get involved and help someone! I'm sure you benefited from others help.
