Personally, its not my cup of tea, but even if you dont like the outcome, you have to respect the amount of work and fabrication skills that went into the car making it what it is..... I wish i had metal working skills like that...
What's funny is, if they had yanked the Bimmer drivetrain and stuffed in a flathead, I bet a lot of the naysayers here would probably have liked it.
Wouldn't it have been easier just to buy a Jaguar convertible? Haha, that's what it looks like to me, at least.
Look and feel... Some folks want the look of a 50's car, but with modern components; the feel of the ride is unimportant. sheesh. Buy a PT 'vert, willya? I feel sorry for the car.
Why? Because you don't like them? Have you ever ACTUALLY DRIVEN one? And if not, what is the basis of your opinion? I don't understand this whole "if I don't like it, it's obviously ****" mentality. Is a BMW a traditional hot rod? Obviously not. Is it a world cl*** performance car? Yes, it is. I know a guy here locally with a Dinan conversion M5 that keeps up with his buddy's Ducati 750. That's "real" enough for me. But then, I appreciate all fast cars (whether they fit here or not).
really. whats a real car then? thanks for the laughs, loudpedal. we know you mean it and you're ******** 'n all...but your generalizations just crack me up (and how you just dismiss 100yrs of rich automobile heritage and racing tradition). btw...the car ain't my cup 'o tea, either but i respect the vision.
I dont give 2 ****s about BMWs history. Yes, they made airplanes, now cars and raced so what. So did a lot of other manufactures. I havent seen one single vehicle from over there that gets me going. Hey, sorry if I offend all of you BMW driving soccer moms and yuppies out there, but facts are facts; American iron, my friend, is what a real car is made of (And before you start preaching to me how no car made now days is American, keep in mind the newest car I own was made in 1968... IN AMERICA). Yes I have drove many BMWs. I would venture to guess in my 16 year carrier in my prior field that Ive driven more BMW, SAAB, Lexus, Volvo, Mercedes and Porsche than you have, and you know what? Im not impressed, sorry, Im just not. I dont get the attraction, I NEVER will. BMWs are not cool and never will be a REAL car, ..again, sorry truth hurts. A world cl*** performance car big deal, it still doesnt make the car have soul. Anything targeted at soccer Moms and Yuppies will never have soul. There is one statement, that for me, says it all: They dont write songs about BMWs.
Some of the "real" sports cars (not sport sedans) they've built over the years are quite cool, and the Cycles are too. I don't like BMW's not because of the car itself, but because 99.9% of the time, around here anyway, 99.9% of the DRIVERS* of BMWs drive like the ****ing ***HOLES they are! They are the worst at rolling stop signs, not signalling, hitting the gas and closing up the "hole" on the freeway if you do have the courtesy of signal to change lanes instead of just "getting along." Don't even risk your life in a cross walk if one of them is present because they wont stop for you, won't wait for you to cross and if they are making a right turn will drive right over you and pretend they didn't see you. I've had to jump back out of the way of them many times. This didn't happen until the 200.2 model came out and the ****ingyuppies discovered this "German Pontiac". Before that is was just another odd furrin car that didn't roll over as easy as a VW... (*The .1% non-***hole part is for Mike B, Jim P and MarK S, I hope.)
Awesome fab skills...and a bumbling, unattractive design that goes absolutely nowhere. A-B-O-R-T-I-O-N. Blecch.
WOW! I'm glad I checked that out. There is definitely a lot of time and talent to get that looking so good.

I drive just like he descibed above..I don't know what causes it Really. Alot of new cars are nice. But they really don't have soul.. I can drive my coupe down the highway and have guys pull up beside me in their ferrari and take photos. Thats a cool feeling. I still love my old cars more.
Thanks! I echo those words too! I feel proud to have two American built cars (40 merc and 53 chevrolet). I wouldn't have any other way. Ken
I hope to someday own a 450 HP Hi Po V-12 5 series.......there, I said it....it has always been my dream car.....I don't give a rats *** if it's not a real car....it will be real enough for me to sit my *** down in it and tear up the asphalt......and smile whilst doing it!!!!! If I remember right...there was a certain black BMW that gave Ryan's car comp down the 1/4 mile at MOKAn the first year..... Ooooooppppsss...that was a Mercedes Benz AMG??.....supercharged I believe
What this reminds me most of is an artist rendering I saw a couple of years ago where they dressed up a then new Camaro with Avanti look alike panels. Kind of a neat idea, but too slick. Lifeless... ( soul less ) What makes this one so much better IMO, is the Metal Work. I'd feel no different about it if they had bent that metal around a 06 Chevy or Chrysler...
I've been following these guys for a couple years now, since they did the BMW 850 into a Volga. Basically, Russia does not have any high end auto manufacturers and the guys in the Russian gov't don't want to be seen driving something other than a Russian car for national pride, whatever. so, they commission theses guys to do one off coachbuilding on the newest BMWs. When it comes right down to it, these guys are incredible craftsman, regardless of if you like a BMW or not.
Those hacks should have sent it to a REAL AMERICAN CUSTOMIZER!!!!.....George Barris. THEN it woulda been Ol Skool Kool!!
That's a good looking Russian. Better than what they have right now for damn sure. So what if it's guts are German. The last time I was in some German guts was the Marble Palace in Frankfurt back in '92. Good stuff those Germans. Anyway. Synthsis nailed it. Same guys produce a bunch of high end cars for the former Soviet Politniks.
Fantastic work. I personally like the stock M6 better. The new one looks like a t-bird to me...with daytons... But regardless of my personal tastes, I will always stand up and applaud good craftsmen ship, and this car certainly has it.
well i think it's friggin gorgeous. i actually like the stock one but talk about having something ***y and unique that you can still drive the piss out of. if i was rich as hell i'd priolly have a car or two like built myself. i'd still have a stable full of old skool jalopies too though. hey, some people have more money than alot of us can even fathom. whoever had that thing built is prolly one of those people. you say "WHY?" i say "WHY NOT!"
My first car was a 1939 Ford coupe with a 48 Merc. flathead, I've had a pre-40 Ford in my garage eversince (42 years). That said, I also have had a BMW in the garage since 1974 (33 years). I now own a 1988 M6 with 40k original miles and several "rust" ford projects. Does that make me a "chainer" with a hotrod, or a hotrodder with a damn furrin job? Good cars are good cars, and they don't all have to come from the USA. Just my opinion.
