He was super nice. It is unbelievable that you get to hang out at his shop. I had him sign a copy of a picture of his shop from ‘57; it is the focal point of my living room.

When we first walked past him at Autorama I happened to look over and I say, "Holey Crap! That's Gene Winfield!" I'm all stoked and the two guys I'm with go, "Who's Gene Winfield?"

    ahh, man.

You're moving away from Gene Winfield's shop?

Yeah sadly I am. If I'd listened to the locals I would have met him a year earlier but just couldn't get the nerve up to go out there regardless of what they said about him. He's only 25 miles from my house and it took me forever. I babbled like some teenager and the poor guy had to deal with it. hahaha The second time out it was much better! It is such a cool place and so much like everyone else's shop. Total chaos but if, like us, they put things away they'd never find it.

I've probably been out there about 6 times or so. I asked him if he minded me hanging out and watching the work and he said no anytime. I see something I missed or they have something new all the time. The smell of metal on a grinder and all reminds me of home when I was a kid in my dad's garage. I just love it. Took a bit with one of the people out there til I had to wait on gene for a bit and talked to him a while and he realized I really was interested in old cars and grease etc.

If you are ever out here in the Mojave area you have to go check it out!

If you go here there is some pics and thing I wrote up about my first visit. I had a grin on my face for the rest of the day and even had to stop a couple miles down the road and call a friend of mine cause I couldn't wait til i was home. I'm such a nut sometimes!

I have a pic of him with the "Shotrod" hanging on my wall and had him sign it and the CK Deluxe Magazine with an article of him in it. He also told me of the '64 galaxie convertible he did for Ford in '64. I finally found a magazine with the car in it on ebay.

Not trying to be a post whore here but thought I'd post a pic of the yellow w/white top on the galaxie page in it's new color. I took this pic a couple months ago when i was at winfields shop. It looks so much better this color. This and the pickup will be going to Japan when finished. Can't remember who he said the owner was. They own World of Wheels or something like that.

Do we have to wait until the calendars arrive to find out what pics will be in it, or are the "winners" told beforehand?
