I think most understand the talent and hardwork it takes to build these cars. They truly are incredible artisan pieces. But. They are not hot rods and I think that's where they lose the attention of most on the HAMB. Then there are cars like the Golden Submarine that eveybody (myselft included) on here is going crazy about. Here is a car that is owner built. That alone makes it more relative to us and actually makes it a hot rod. Eventhough it is a complete one off that it is inspired by an old Miller Indy Car.

I'm sure the classic looks of it also have alot to do with cars appeal around here. Probably to point where most have been unfair to the Ridler cars by comparison. I know that I have called them cliche, predicatble and boring several times. And as far as the overall aesthetic is concerned I stick by those words. But I do know that there is plenty of hardwork, skill and creativity that goes into these cars. And that it's mostly in details that aren't even visible. It is on that basis that the "Ferrambo" (worst name ever) won and I feel deservingly so. I am looking forward to seeing something different along the lines of the Golden Submarine in future Ridler competitions. It may happen one day.

There seems to be a formula of featureless exteriors, boring leather everywhere interiors and billet wheels of ever increasing diameter that seems to have been in place for almost twenty years now. It's tired, and it's old and it has got to go. If these are supposed to be the cutting edge cars, then it's high time that they become cutting edge. But until there is a return of the owner built car at this level I imagine that most of us around here will continue to not care.

  2. Incredible quality of workmanship, and planning will always be "traditional"! And that creation has it in abundance. Congratulations to the Divers, well earned.:D

I think this truck was the obvious winner. Hand formed, many, many, many body mods, very tastefully done. A frikkin' bland looking Rambler? Oh well...

    That says it all.

I love the work... the result, not so much. This is another one of those 'Why?' cars.

  5. We just got on cable ,the guy winning I thought a year ago,but it could possibly be 2 or more. The point being he won with a 41 willys that he had owned since he could walk,It was an awesome car with a fascinating story and history.I guess thats reedlah for ya!

  6. Maybe he lost points for putting a light pole right in front of the camera man...

Did anyone see this in the hall? Yes... I know it's not HAMB-friendly, but it's an ex-Aussie '36 Ford ute. Got DQ'd from Ridler contention due to a fuel leak apparently.

i,m with you. i walked right by that thing and went right to winfields customs, actually talked to gene, took some pics with him, went over to voodoo larrys car and shot the breeze with him for about 20 minutes and then headed downstairs. that was cool! on the way out we saw the rambler and said, would look cool in primer, wide whites with a nailhead, let,s go grab a beer!

  9. You're fucking kidding me?

What colour primer? Black? Red wheels maybe?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Sorry...rambler is cool and all, but the 55 Chrysler wagon is just sick. I love the lines, and the dodge "Magnum" roofline. wow. that is art.

So the owner of the shop was being interviewed by a local detroit news, a question went kinda like this...
"so let me get this straight, you combined the best parts of both cars?"
boy i bet ferrari people loved that one

    BBS wheels outdated?

    Really?

  14. Pretty damned neat car. Clean, simple, yet some well thought out engineering behind it. Much rather see something like this win than a 1-800 hot rod kit win.

I know it's way easier to tear them apart from the sidelines than actually build them- BUT, I would say a major problem with this creation is that instead of going TOTALLY off the page with a one-off grille they (owner or builder) decided to go with a '37 Ford grille. Making it fit the GM lines is a waste because it sticks out too far forward therefore appearing to be tacked on rather that created as an appealing diversion from a stock unit. And to me a Ford Nose on an otherwise GM creation is lazy (same if used in the opposite direction like a '32 Ford grille on any '30s GM vehicle).

Feel free to let opinions differ ;)

Wow. I find it refreshing it didn't go to another goldish color, 36ish , Fordish looking thing. Nice to see someone come up with something different.

Question about the Ridler. Is there a ranking of the cars? Such as #2 through #8, or is there only a winner and 7 non winners?

Usually I hate these Frumpmobiles... and this is absolutely every individual thing I hate, but it is put together in a way that I'd love to own and drive hard. As in "Let them eat my WTF dust!"

There is no ranking,... there is the winner, and the other 7 of the Great-8 share first looser ,... the other 20 cars that were running for it but didn't make the Great-8, I guess would be second loser's ,.....

With the Ridler you either win or you don't
