I did it for a living... Not traditional drag racing, but IHRA ProM, Formula 3000, nastruck, and Formula 1.

Sure grudges are great... That said, trash talking little girls is like crying in baseball. Ridiculous...

I'm flying out of here at 6 a.m. Friday . See you guys there !

  6. Weather update:
    Friday Sunny and 70
    Saturday partly cloudy, 72
Sunday 72 and 40% chance of showers in the late PM

I saw a nice looking '61 Bel Air/Biscayne last night on the way to the track last night on my way home from work. Looked like an East coast plate. Saw a few more enclosed trailers that suspiciously looked like they might be Thompson bound. Looks like it'll be good weather and a large turnout.

There were probably a dozen 09 cars there when I left at 6pm yesterdy. They're talking about possibly 50 of them coming now.

  8. Can't wait! Leaving work in Columbus early, meeting my wife and some cousins for food and beer and plan on being there bright and early. Anybody know when the gates open?

I plan on having a car to run next year . . . come hell, high water and a bad economy. My car is designed to be a mid-60's BG comp coupe - should fit right in.

    See you all soon!

This year's event is DEFINITELY one of if not the best so far!!!!!! The outstanding weather may have had something to do with that!!! Can't wait till tomorrow.

I talked with one fella who drove 600 miles to be there!!!

The air is GOOD - I went my best so far and talked with some others who had the same results!!!!!

If you're "on the fence" - you'll probably regret if you miss this years event!!!!!

Truly Awesome!! I may die trying to cover it all.

  13. Another great day at Thompson. Perfect weather and constant action. Nice to meet and chat with Falcon Gasser. I think I heard that there is 156 cars in eliminations starting Sunday morning. Anybody on the fence going on Sunday should try to make it for sure. I wasn't going on Sunday but I changed my mine. Oh Yeah the 409 cars are awesome. A couple of them are cracking into the 8's.

    Great cars and Great weather!
All I overheard all day was " I can't believe how many cars are here!"
The 409's were amazing and I never saw so many Anglias and Willy's in one spot, a-m-a-z-i-n-g to say the least.
The big boys were to run the 1/8th, which led to lots of grumbling in the stands, but a few of Pilots said "F" the man and stayed in it through the whole 1/4  that made the whole trip there worth while right there!

Tin Indian and the Iron Horse were there, no runs though:(
    Looking forward to the pix!

Congrats to Thompsons for a successful event.

Had I known AA/GS (that's who I suspect you mean by the "Big Boys") were gonna run the 1/4 mile, I may have changed my mind about going. How did some guys run the 1/4 and some guys run the 1/8 in the same race? I'm a little confused about that...Please explain. Anyway, who won the 1/4 mile part of the AA/GS race? Best Et's? MPH's? Winning cars? Stats? ...now I feel like I might have missed something worth seeing!
Enquiring minds want to know! Thanks!

the gassers were supposed to only run 1/8 mile, but some of them stayed on the throttle to the 1/4 finish line. the way its meant to be. 1/8 mile drags suck!!!!

So, who won the 1/4 mile part of the AA/GS race? Best Et's? MPH's? Winning cars? Stats?

  21. I've been going to that track since I was born back in '66....and I haven't seen it so PACKED with cars since the '80's! Cars were fast, weather was fantastic. The track was sticky and the stick shift cars were tearing things up but the crew kept on top of it. Alot of guys breaking out. I loved watching the floppers making passes.

The 348/409 were beating those cars and wowwing the fans....I can't count how many times I heard, "Back in '62 I had one just like that except for..."

The KS Pitman tribute car is absolutely beautiful.

The 1/8th mile passes that went the 1/4 were great!

I've made it to 7 of the 8 events and this one was by FAR the best, hands down. Just the numbers of guys there to race was fantastic.

I'm sunburnt, smell like tire smoke, walking crooked and have a faint smell of top end lube.....and wouldn't want it any other way. :D

It was great. glad they had a good gate. That keeps the event alive and happening. I too am burnt, sun screen and all. The newer cut off date wasn't bad. A few Chevelles and Camaros but not anywhere near over whelming. A few are good, too many wouldn't be so nostalgic. One Cuda was kicking some butt. A Javelin was really running strong. Good to see this different stuff doing well. Rat Patrol 56 was a screamer.
Saw many of the local Hambers too.

Krass--What 61 said, they were set up and timed to run 1/8 and shut it down, some of them stayed full on the throttle through the 1/4.
    HELL YEAH!!
The first pair that ran, they ran the 1/8 and shut it down and the people behind us were pretty miffed, as many were, and when the second match up blew right through 1/8 timers and stayed on it all the way through the lights everyone went bananas!!!!
It was awesome, like to say F-You we came to show 'em what we can do and they did it! So cool!!!
Hey Curly, how about that "Hemi J"?!!!!

  25. A great time was had by all...never have I seen Thompson so packed! The only downer was the nights..We should be racing friday and saturday nights...I know, if I was the crew, I would be giving me the middle finger:eek: but maybe now that they see how big this event can be, they can get more help and have a couple shifts. I really felt for this crew. THey stepped up and way beyond the normal call of duty. I don't know the burn out box girls name, but if I had taken a camera, I would have taken a picture of her...she was totally filthy! I mean rubber all over her legs and the rest of her looked like a young motorhead after a day in a junkyard. I clap my hands for the whole crew......The track was outstanding. I obliterated my best of 10.94 with a 10.69 @ 122! The rear suspension tweeking over the winter paid off with most of the runs in the 10.80s except for the couple really squirly launches....I also got to meet Kathy Hart and talk to her about Pure Determination....what a great lady! I am really excited to involve her and Mickey's daughter in the car's restoration. I also met Ron Wilson's best friend whose name excapes me right now and had a great conversation with him about my plans for the Hart car.....Great seeing and talking to everyone!

So, for those who ran it through the quarter....how could you tell who won if it was a close race? No et's, or mph then?

Great time was had by all.....The Slick Devils had a strong showing and all did well.....My Truck really made me work hard..........only had a best of 11.03 by sunday....I had run 10.91 the Saturday before and was looking to better that by a bunch......changed jets five times in the six-two set up and many other things hunting for my goal...I worked on it the whole weekend...I tried to get it into the tens this weekend but it was not in the cards, but I tried real hard.......Had a few bouts with violent front tire shake, So Don and I bolted on a front steering dampner after my last pass on Saturday.....seemed allot better on Sunday...Great to see everyone again and meet new folks as well......It was great to see Axle flying out to see the event....and as Don said above the Track team did one hell of a job !!....Littleman......I forgot to add.....I took myself out in eliminations during the 2nd round with a .0034 red light......

    Hey All,

Just wanted to thank all of the people that took the time to walk over to the swap meet area. I was able to unload a ton of parts and build up the war chest for the 56 Gasser build. The weekend was awesome, just didn't have much time to watch any races.
In the 20 years that I have been going to Thompsons, I have never seen it as busy as it was this weekend!!

ok...I think I'm getting a clear picture...sorta...big crowd, crowd hated the 1/8 mile racing like I do. 2 guys ran the full racetrack with no 1/4 mile et's or mph's displayed. And this was a big deal?
Why? Were they the winners? Nobody can tell me who won in AA/GS, so I'm guessing it was just that lame.... I go for the supercharged cars, not to watch some high 10's carbureted Willys make 30 passes, no offense Don! I can see that stuff without driving 10 hours. Probably be ok if I was local. Glad I got my yard work done.
