Great transmission, got a 200-4R in my 57 chevy and a700-R4 in my 54 pickup. Love them both. Proper adjustment of the TV cable is a must or they will burn up very soon. Another plus for the 200 is they fit in place of a power glide or a 350 in a Tri 5 chevy as they are the same lenght and the smaller diameter make for more exhaust room.
Bellytanker, I was told this 200 metric is in a '88 Monte Carlo. Could that be? The 200 Metric is a 3 speed as opposed to the 200R4 which is a 4 sp OD.
The last year for the TH200 was 1987, and it was used mostly in X body cars (Nova, etc). The Monte is a G-body, and those all got 2004Rs if it had overdrive, otherwise they got the TH350. If it has a (d) or a [d] on the shift indicator, its a 2004R.
+1 with Buickfreak, If you can look at the car, the shift indicator should be a good indicator (no pun intended). I don't think that the smaller 200, ( a 3 speed) would have been in the Monte Carlo, at least through '85 the Monte came with the 200-4r. I happened to be under my Model A the other day and realized that it says "Metric" on the pan. I had forgotten that bit of info. But as stated earlier, if you can see the trans it would be easy to identify by the pan shape. K.
Thanks Bellytanker, I hope that is why the guy said it was "metric". I'll go take a look later this week. Got the shape of the 200-4r engrained. J'mike
I believe that the 88 200-4R is computer controlled...you can still use it. The Monte Carlo 200-4R is second only to the Buick Grand National 4R...
