The judging criteria for this show just does not jive with the principles of the HAMB and purely traditional rodding. I am not a purist of the traditional build style, although I love the simplicity of it! The car that won this year is probably the one that should have gotten the big trophy, based on the judging regs that have been used since traditional was high tech. Last years winner was a great nod to the traditional build style; all the while being a highly restyled hand built with mostly hand built parts car. Try as we might....it's highly unlikely that a HAMB freindly car with ever win the AMBR. That is unless someone decides to build a traditional looking car with custom one off parts that look like original stuff. Maybe if another roadster, built similar to the Poteet 32 delivery from a couple of years ago, where to compete....we (the HAMB) might have a winner!!!!!

This is the first time I have seen a bunch of pics of the display...that is beyond gay.

All they needed was some crybaby dolls.

I still can't get over the port holes, they really do look like the Pep Boy ones.

I have no problem with high tech btw, I do have a problem with "looks."

Okay, I have said my peace on this...I hate that car, I am done on the subject.

The dolls near the sign are ****in creepy, and i mean that in a negative way!
I find it absoluteley unbelievable that in a sea of beautiful cars the most ugly one has to win!
But then again, isnt it happening every ****in year?

"Style and looks" are subjective terms. I don't see how the judges choice makes them look foolish. You have your taste, and they have theirs. Just because you don't agree with them, doesn't neccessarily make them wrong.

All the contenders looked like real cars except the winner. Very interesting. Maybe they need to get some fresh blood doing the judging!

It's irrelevant, isn't it? This is a traditional rod and and custom forum, and AMBR has nothing to do with that. The black Hiboy, gold RPU, and red hemi '32 are nice, but just too simple for this kind of contest.

I don't get the Muntz Roadster. Sorry, but that fake patina is so fake looking it hurts.

It's not "Muntz". The roadster is owned by a guy named Richard Munz.

  10. i dont think its a matter of taste...i think you`ll find its more of an engineering contest than a car contest

Just to set the record straight, Richard's car was not in contention for the AMBR. It was placed in that position in the hall when another contender showed up with a Dearborn deuce car, which has roll up windows so it is not a Roadster and was eliminated from the comp. Must **** to spend a billion dollars and not understand the rules, or know what a roadster is.
As for the guy who said he didn't get Richard's car - It was built to be a lifesize replica of the amazing bronze statue that you can see in the picture. Taken in that context, Jim Busby's crew did a killer job!

It's no secret you guys hate our cars, so no biggee. However it still seems silly that a bunch of guys who did not see the car in person are trying to judge it on the internet.

There were a bunch of beautiful cars there and we were fortunate to take the AMBR again with a car that cost HALF of what all the other cars cost to build.

At the end of the day that car was built on a budget and was 100% hand built. Love it or hate it, we built it to win. This is a "traditional" board. the AMBR award is for anything but traditional cars. So why all the hate?

It is the inclusion of the words "America's Most Beautiful" in the award ***le; we mostly agree that it is a " Roadster". vic

While many here did see it in person you really don't need to see the car in person to critique it for the style that it represents. I don't think to many guys are actually puttin down the craftmanship since even by a picture you can tell the finish work is very nice. The overall style of the car is what people disagree with and question how it gets to the point when you question what make, model and year the car actually is.

That is very obvious by the way some of these cars were built..And by the way there were 100's of HAMBers there that saw it in person...Now go fill out the rest of your profile page and do an introduction

I kind of agree... I saw the car and studied it. The craftsmanship was as you would expect. Not in a million could I ever dream of building a car so well.

I don't at all appreciate the style of the car. It's not my thing. And it does make me sad that the car won... all for selfish reasons.

However, I don't understand why a guy would bag on another guy for a difference of opinion on style. I'd be willing to bet that these Scott Hot Rod guys are really damn good folks. They are car guys.

Don't hate on them... There's no reason or sense to it.

I don't hate the guys, I hate the car.

I see this as being no different than liking the Cowboys and hating the Eagles...pasion is an important aspect to all of this.

I am sure I can find trick little details that would blow me away, but I am more interested in the entire package.

Bottom line this is two controversial winners of the AMBR from the same people.

Asthetics are subjective, but that really seems to be left out now. Asthetics are part of the name of the AMBR in the form of beauty.

Please don't mistake this for an attack...it is just how I see it.

Some are p***ionate about football, I feel that way about things like this.

I'm perfectly happy living my life while ignoring cars like that.

But if I do happen to stumble across a pic of one I cant help but notice how much the builders of Modern Hot Rods are struggling with their Wheels & Tires.

They want to use the Low Profile/ Big Inch stuff, but they haven figured out how to make it look good...

Let's face it folks, the AMBR contenders have to meet certain judging criteria. It seems to be that the criteria are so alien to the HAMB world that nobody should be holding their breath waiting for a HAMB type car to win. To me the AMBR is irrelevant to real hot rodding - it's about as relevant as a 'reality show' is to reality. The judges have to adhere to the rules. If the rulemakers grasp of the real world is tenuous, then there is little hope.

I attended the show for two days and had a great time. I saw some amazing creations, millions of hours of BST and p***ion as well as $$$. Some I loved, some I liked and some were simply off my radar and fall into the category of 'whatever spins your crank'. Was there anything there that I would wish to own - yes a couple of the historic race cars would be great but I would be nervous about the responsibility. So really I can say it was a great show - actually kind of overwhelming. And my final thought is that the AMBR trophy may be the reason for the show but the show is so much more that the AMBR contest and award - in my eyes at least, that it is completely marginalized by everything else that goes on at the show. My worthless zero point zero two...

I'm attracted to this level of automobile building as it represents a form of art. Yet, the art still needs to represent the automobile in an enhanced and balanced form. (my opinion)

These cars certainly represent high levels of fit and finish.

Fortunately, great art isn't relative to how much money is spent.

But some think so and we end up with what has been the norm for awhile. Then others think this is the standard to compete and the cycle starts off on the money spending, copy-cat path that we're on.

None of these represent anything that I would be interested in as I'm more attracted to other draws that many feel when observing art. I won't mention my attraction because it will differ from many and there is no sense to defend it.

    Hours spent. Yes.
    Too much money spent. Yes.
Modifications spent to the point where nothing on the car is original. Yes.
Lot's of blingy "circus like" attraction even in the displays. Yes.

    Works of art? Well, hmmmm....

Street cars and show cars are only similar in that they both have wheels and an engine. They are built for different purposes that usually don't cross over to the other well. What works on the street doesn't work in a compe***ive show. Shows used to be about having your friends win. Then, in response to that, ISCA came along and created a more fair way to judge cars; judge on number and quality of modifications, not personal taste. That led to lots of ugly show cars that had no cohesive design, just a lot of changes. Today I expect that it is more directed toward quality of construction and finish, which costs way more than most can afford. It's not a game hot rodders play well, as traditional style emphasizes the line, proportion, and style of the past, plus the cost is not justifiable for something we use. I can admire the construction and finishes, but I don't have to like the design or proportion-those are subjective and personal. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, and the "Most Beautiful" is defined by each of us differently. Unfortunately, someone has to make a choice for the event, and, like the judges that were probably condemned when the Ala Kart first won, contemporary design seems to be the direction of the show. Let it be-we have our HAMB award, they have their AMBR award, and the two will probably never meet; it doesn't mean we can't have a good time along the way.

Guys and gals this is an indoor show where cars are displayed on pedestals. Why in the world would you go there or look at pics from the show if it wasn't your thing. The show is about fit and finish like it or not. I did not see the car in person and just hate when people judge cars from what they see in print. All that glitters isn't gold.

Scott's the car isn't my style but I appreciate the craftsmanship and effort in the same way I can that cool little part on a so called rat rod. If they wheeled it into a traditional show then go ahead and bash away but they didn't.

Remember they are going up against some big dollars and also have to contend with the guy paying the bills. Unless I see the cars in person I will not judge on quality. It is what it is. Congrats on the win. With that said go build a traditional style car that can win and please the hamsters I mean HAMBERS.

    Congrats!!
