  1. I know I watch it too much, because when I looked back at my kid last year, he had his own little auction set up.

Anything where I can sit around and stare at old cars is good with me. And yeah, I yell at some of the silly stuff the announcers say, too. :D

    Ditto.

Every minute not watching TV is a minute of hot rod building time gained.

I will watch the evening stuff with a cold beer, after I'm done in the shop.

  3. Here is how I look at it. I went last year on p***es that I got through a friend of mine and got too see some really nice cars, really rare ones that I will probley never get to see again in my life time and learn something about some rare car that I never new about. I drove my rusty coupe out there and they gave me prefered parking for free thinking I was part of the show and was short walk to the event. All the auctions that happen out here have some really rare cars and race cars that are just plain bad ***. who cares about what some spent on the car. It cost me almost nothing too see a big money race car and I do not have to have the upkeep cost or insurance cost to see it and my camera takes tons of free photos. I will for sure be at most of the auctions again this year. Hell 4 years ago I was able to meet and talke Alan Dekabe form speedvision and put him on the phone with Metalshapes so they could talk about metalshapes special race car that he had found. Final word from me is don't watch it if makes you mad but I feel that a true gear head cannot stay away. And the women there WOW don't get started on that either.

I'll let you know. Not sure what days I'll be working but I believe it is Friday and Saturday, at least that is what they told me. I would rather just go to hang out but work is slow and I need the $$$.

I`m going just because I`ve never been. My boss is a car nut and set me up with a bidders p*** with the dealerships name and I`ll probably never use it but the parking is better and the drinks are free. My wife and I`ll comb the parking lot and vendor areas and if I see something I can`t live without I`ll have it shipped home and not have to pay the commission. There has to be transport people all over looking for fuel money home.
We`ll see. Should be a blast.

He also said be sure to check out the bidders area as every rich guy brings their daughters with them dressed to kill on Saturday nite....LOL

I'll probably watch it, but turn the audio down and subs***ute Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" to see if anything synchs up.

Some of the cars are cool to see. I enjoyed watching for the first year or two. It was different and sort of like a car show on TV. But now it honestly disgusts me. Along with most everything else. It just upsets me that people who aren't really into this whole thing may watch the show and then maybe ***ociate me with these deusches (sp?) and their spoiled kids and wives when I tell them that I am interested in cars. Watching a bunch of middle aged gold chainers with DC shirts (Does anyone else remember when DC was just a small skate shoe company?) bid on another '68 Camaro or an '86 911 turbo with a non factory slant nose conversion is not my idea of entertainment. Then again TV in general has very nearly gone to total **** over the last few years. It's almost as useless as the radio. Ultimately I don't have a dog in the fight over this whole thing. I'm just using this subject as a venue to spew my hatred for modern pop culture. If you like it I don't care. If you don't, then you are obviously a bit of a thinker, but I am sure that there are more imporant things to to get upset over.

I love the things they say like " it's a two door coupe" or "the Nomad is a special station wagon" And the best one yet " A 55 Chevy shoe box"

TIVO or DVR it! That is the ONLY way to watch that show. That way all the gazillion commercials and new Mustangs and Vettes and charity cars and pianos fly by in mere seconds so you can take in the 12 minutes of stuff worth watching. THEN you can gripe about how cheap or expensive it went for and possible even learn something from Steve.

I wonder what the catch phrase or word will be this year that will be repeated over and over and over again? Good drinking game material there for you and yer buddies!!

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of jealousy on this website. Just because there are people out there that have achieved the means to buy cars and toys that many of us can't afford, don't whine and ***** about what you can't have. Would you feel better if Barrett Jackson sold rusty **** wagons? For one thing it wouldn't be on TV. Would you go to a ***ty bar with old scabby fat chicks? I think not. If what you have makes you happy, fine. We should be happy about any TV coverage on our great hobby. Be happy we live in a place that people can achieve cars and toys in excess. I am. Don't get me wrong, I love my shop to work in. I have built many cars and have done well with them. That guy that bought the $100,000 Camaro dream car probably has the same smile as some of us with our homebuilt cars.We all deserve the same respect.

Seems like a lot of guys on here with issues and a lot of drama. How about 'live and let live' rather than spewing vitriol, envy and disgust?

I really do not give a damn about the bidders and buyers but I would go in a heartbeat to look at the cars and there are some seriously rare and exotic vintage pieces in some of the other auctions in town, but then again I heart cars of many different types and this whole thing is a huge multicultural car show.

Nope, I'd rather see someone get the cars that cares about the cars and doesn't just want to measure their ***** against their buddy. BJ is not about the cars, it's about status and showing someone up. I'm with metalshapes on this one. If it was about the cars I'd give a ****.

I've actually heard tri-5's referred to as shoe boxes for at least the last 35 years.

I like watching it. Actually a friend of mine went there once and said there are cars outside the tent that are just street cars that can be had at very good prices. Alot of these hi end cars go for good prices, some far below the actual cost of the build. So not everyone cashes in realy. It's a business, an auction. Nuff said.

  21. It'll be VERY interesting to see how the "Double Trouble" does compared to the Pinkee's(?) built brown RPU from a couple yrs ago. Two cars that impressed me a whole lot!

  22. Same here! When I heard some kid call a 49-51 Ford a "shoebox" a few yrs back, I thought he was nuts:confused:

Almost a whole week of done cars on tv, how can that be bad? Isn't it better than the **** the Speed Channel usually has on? Or anything else that is on TV this time of year? And why don't the rest of you have cable in your shop? pretty good background noise if you ask me. I will watch every hour. It does good to let one know what stupid money is.

Just a couple of my thoughts regards the auction:

I sit there and do a quick calculation on what the auction company makes on each sale... These guys are the ones making the money. A couple of years ago, a dark blue LS6 1970 Chevelle drag car sold for more than one million. I read recently that the buyer of that car fell on hard times and his collection was sold or auctioned off. The Chevelle didn't sell for anywhere near what he paid for it. He lost A LOT OF MONEY. As I would expect with a lot of these cars that have sold for record amounts - if the buyer decided to resell the car anytime soon after the purchase.

The other thing that I take notice of is that you've got a lot of financially blessed people standing/sitting there watching two bidders "go at it" and most of them (the spectators) are thinking "Y'all are crazy!". It's just another episode "life styles of the rich and famous (or infamous).

All that auction is , are a bunch of people that have nothing better to do then bid and pay 5x what the car/truck is really worth . Thanks to those kind of ***holes all the Mopar cars went thought the roof . Now when I go to a swap meet and someone has their car for sale for way more than it's really worth all I hear is , this is the same as the one on BJ and it sold for $225,000 so mine is worth at least 1/2 that , right . I see so many way over priced cars out there all because of that damn auction . It's nothing better than for people with deep pocket to buy high priced cars so they can say "look what I bought" & paid way too much for it .
So now you know my thought about the auctions on TV !

I would like to have the 66.

In 2006, ****era's T sold so cheap, I could have afforded it.

Love it, hate it. I will watch as much as my wife can stand.

I first went there in the 80's. It wasn't the no reserve format then. I ran into a guy knew. He'd buy a car and drive it home (2000 miles). Today,it is put forth like a reality series. Some people get in pis**** contests there, not that it doesn't happen here:rolleyes:. I go to a lot of different auctions. If you are disciplined, you can get deals. If you believe some of the BS on these shows, you might check out WWF too. That being said if I had the $$$ and saw something I wanted,I'd do it too. If you have bought something at ANY auction, then you are not really any different?
