I just want to say a quick thank you to all the people that came out here to Salina for the KKOA show. I work in Salina during the week and to me it seems the whole city gets excited about the show and enjoys seeing all the awesome cars driving around town all weekend.

The venue this year was simply incredible. Us locals knew it would be a good place to have it, but seeing all those Kustoms spread out amungst the trees and along the river was really something.

As always it was great seeing old friends and meeting some new ones.

I saw these two really nice cars from out of town on Wednesday parked near the Cozy-Inn:

Mike barn-find-T and his family arrived at my house on wednesday evening with his freshly on the road shoe:

Thursday I had to work but ran up to the host hotel to get registered and I became a new member of the KKOA. I saw this very cl***y kustom:

Then in the afternoon I met up with the group and we all went to the new waterpark right next to the park where the carshow was to be held:

We all had a blast! $5 to get in, and a perfect place to spend a 100* afternoon!

Afterwards we grabbed some Sonic and went to the park to catch the Johhny Cash tribute. He was great!

Friday we arrived at the show right around lunchtime, and hooked up with BobK and his friend from Minnesota and went to the Scheme for lunch, a great local pizza and sandwich place with lots of COLD ac and great iced tea! Friday late afternoon we went up to the park where the stoplight drags were held to help Kerry with his digger, and were saddened by the news:

But I know he will persevere.

Friday night a bunch of us got some great BBQ at Hickory Hut on West Crawford. I had my youngest daughter with me so we headed home to Abilene instead of going downtown to the Calvin Customs open house. Nate and Zach and Luke came over and we hung out on the patio by the pool.

Saturday morning we ***embled at my house to run over to Salina. I snapped this pic of a rainbow over my barn:

The show Saturday was so great. So many great cars and people. I finally got to meet wfoguy and we chatted for awhile in the am. I walked around and looked at cars. We grilled up some brats and some fresh sweet corn from my garden at the park for lunch. Yum.

Then Saturday eveing a bunch of us headed over to my favorite local burger joint, Kuntz's Drive-In. A former A&W in the 1950s still serving great double cheesburgers and home-made rootbeer.

Thank you so much to all who made the trip over! I really appreciate it.

Afterwards some of us went over to my place to relax a bit:

    Great times for sure.

I am really looking forward to next year.

Thanks to the KKOA for putting on such a great show, and thanks again to all those that made the trip!!!

Jay, it was good to see you again and chat for a few minutes Friday afternoon. There was so much to see and do, I feel like we missed out on alot of it. Still it was one of the best shindigs of my 36 + years of Hotrodin'! Lookin' forward to next year already.

  3. Jay, you were a gracious host as always. I thank you and the Spam Skinnerzz thank you. :)

Driving the coupe from Salina to Abilene with my intrepid co-pilot was the highlight of the weekend.

Busted cars mean more garage time with good friends. I'll get there one day. I wanna see my old Peter Beater go down the dragstrip.....

Talked to the owner of the truck and he was a really nice guy. Said the reason he built the truck was for all the times that all the people out there had to look over at a Corvette at a stoplight while driving a 'piece of ****' and wouldn't it be fun to beat the Vette in a 'piece of ****'.

He said his best ETA was a 10.3 and that the truck weighs in at over 4,900 lbs.

I had a great time as usual. I had a great trip. I met up with a good friend and got a cruise through the park in a chopped merc, how cool is that. I had some good friends and fellow Vagabonds save me a spot to park my fashonably late coupe. I was also able to secure a room at the Sweet Inn in Abiline, Ks. They have a pool and covered parkiing, which was good cause it was supposed to rain Sat. night.

Wow- noticed Kerry disappeared from the drags- but wondered what happened. Guess that pic pretty much explains it. :-(

It was great to see you again too!

Unfortunately I always have a scheduling conflict that weekend. Someday I'll make it to another.
