Pretty much my thoughts exactly. My heart is with the Takeout T but the Nugget has all the latest swoopty doo biz going for it.
I like Blue Haze and would love have that car to drive but It doesn't seem to have the same wammie that Takeout T has going for it.

Some of the others looked like each section of the car was planned by committees that weren't communicating with the other committees on the project. No flow or continuity to the car.

Just heard from the BOSS,and he said "YES" there will be a HAMB Award this year! Rumors...rumors!!!!

  4. Looks like Steve's Auto resto put a lot of effort into building a Prowler.

Most of those cars I wouldn't cross the street to take a second glance at, and a couple are absolutely horrible.

Really.... Kind of a disappointing group....again. My 2 cents...go with the T or the 29. I really like the exhaust through the roll pan of the 29'. I absolutely can not stand the prowler look and that is what we see over and over again with the AMBR. Last years car was ugly as could be. The roadsters that are regularly featured in RJ are AMBR contenders (unique, traditional, often ingenious), where are they? AMBR needs to refocus! I think I will be making a b-line to Rudy's 40 Merc!

Takeout T by far, and I'm not a T guy.
Blue '29 is pretty cool too, the rest are horrible, IMHO.

At least it looks like there are some 'REAL' cars contending for the big one. Except for the nose the blue '29 reminds me of Bill Neikamp's '29 the first AMBR with the exhaust out the back panel.

This proves the old adage "just because you have money, doesn't mean you have taste"!

Really...giant directional wheels, hemmoroid cushion, ugly proportions, I hope 90% DON'T show up the TRJ.

Thanks for the preview...Blue Haze sure looks sweet! The "T" is awesome!

  10. The '33 from S.A.R. will win. It's not my favorite, but it's the exact recipe that has won the ***le for the last 10 years.

Traditional cars are cool, but the judges for the AMBR tend to lean toward the billet, flashy, phantom cars with big diameter wheels.

That little "T" is *****in'. Right out of 1962 and I dig it.

I like the subtle way the "blue haze" comes across. Nice example of less-is-better.

Oh- the judging criteria has changed as well. They are actually putting style in there now. They were judging the cars yesterday just on how they sit NOT in a crazy display.

This year hopefully will be different. The old judging staff has left the building and the new judges are the guys from ISCA. The criteria has changed as well as the way they will go about it. Will it be better or worse? Who knows and since everyone has a different opinion on how it should be, it's a rhetorical question anyway.
Instead of getting all worked up about it, how about just enjoying the show and the cars that you like?

I don't see anyone getting "worked up". Everyone is actually pretty polite stating the ones they like without dissecting the ones they might not. Very cool at***udes guys- the way it should be. That kind of openmindedness will lead to some good things in the future.

My only wish is that I had a few bucks to start building an entry NOW for next year!!!!! :)

Without seeing them in person, just from the pics the Take out T gets my vote. But then again the judges look at all the billet bling **** so there is NO way it will win.

Jim, my comment had more to do with the ranting that will undoubtedly start after the winner is announced, just like it always does. Hope it doesn't, but pretty sure it will. There is already a little bit of hating going on about some of the entries....
    See ya there ;)

For potentially obvious reasons my pick is the Takeout T. One of the best parts about this car is that every single part of this car was done in a two car garage either by Russ or a member of the club. Absolutely none of it was farmed outside. Not many can say that they did every facet of their build with only a little help from their friends. Additionally, Russ is like many of us here in that he is just a regular guy with a normal job and just a bnch of vision and talent getting the projects done.
It is very refreshing to see a group of cars that don't appear to be built in such poor taste and vision as many of the past contenders. I do see a few though that I wouldn't cross th street for but i see those as helping to thin out the compe***ion a bit for the cars that are done nicely.

    Go Russ!

Wheels and tires pretty much **** on all the cars. Blue Haze' are maybe p***able good.

But you gotta love the Inland Emperors' and Russ' story, and the T does come closest to the HAMB vibe. Go Takeout T !!

The T is my pick. If the "Rattlesnake" does it for you in pictures, you'd better go see it in person..........

    Yeah, it's cool though.

Car wasn't built to win that award. We felt like "fish out of water" even being up for it. It was a cool experience tho..

It would be cool if Dave did build a roadster actually "trying" to win the AMBR. He could do it, no one has better quality than that guy!

Great to hear, I'm always proud to have the opportunity to participate each year. From many of the comments on this thread, it looks like the Takeout T is in for a good chance at "taking out" the HAMB pick at least. From what I've seen so far, it's got my vote anyway.
