Looking in the review mirror at the past 12 months did you finally get that project up and running? did you start a new project? sell,swap or trade? I traded cars with Ron and we both were happy with the outcome and both of us worked to make the cars our own. HRP
Started on my steel 27 roadster, on 32 rails with a flatty and 39 trans with quick change etc. Some assembly required
Recovered from what I refer to as the big bang. That's a forged piston on an H beam rod sticking out of the newly windowed block.
The new build received aluminum heads, roller cam and some other goodies. I just wasn't going to grind the whole block smooth again.
Big thing this year was getting the wallet recovered from the trip to Pismo beach last year and buying a few too many toys and parts over the past couple of years. Project wise while I didn't make much visible progress I did accumulate a lot of parts for the 48 and only have one major piece left to get as soon as I sell off a bunch of left overs. There isn't going to be a lot of progress until I retire in the spring and have time to actually work on it though. I have great old fart hours at work going in at 10 am and getting off at 19:30 but it sure kills the garage time during the week. Bad part this year is that I haven't made any progress on the shop so I have a place to work. I just don't have much time to work at that right now. That slows everything down.
This past year was, at times, a bit hectic for me. However, I enjoyed every minute of it. All the the shows I went to (by the way I’d like issue an open invite to all of you for next years Hot rods and Hydroplane show at Hydroplane museum in June) the people I met, not to mention the cars. I haven't done much, just moved some things around. Going back to school full time at my age,is a full time job with lots of OT But now that the semester is over, I have two weeks to make some progress!
Finished this car. Started this car. About 75% done. This pile will be a fully assembled feelings hurter by the end of the month. -Abone.
Got my 32 Tudor running (and stopping, which is a good thing). No more auxillary tank. Lost my build thread in the great HAMB CRASH (tm)
Well 2017 wasn't good to me, lots of health issues prostate surgery and discovered cancer so 8 weeks of radiation 5 days a week. Then passed a kidney stone and also just had rupture surgery. On the mend now, cancer is in remission and the other things are behind me but it sure took me away from some of the hot rod things I had planned. Here's to 2018.
Whats that saying when it rains it pours...but eventually it will stop soon...bring on the new beginning.
My build has continued to be stalled. I moved about a year and a half ago, and my car is still in a storage unit 1200 miles away while I'm trying to find a place to put it down here. The Sun seems to have finally set on Irwindale Speedway, California, site of many car club rendezvous.
Got the engine back in the Zipper after sitting for a year and installed MG Midget shocks on the front. Fixed the oil leaks on the '29 truck and installed a Weber 32/36. Took the truck to Lincoln for the Speedster Reunion. Had to replace a sewer line between the guest house and septic plus install a lift pump. Real shitty job and could have put the money to better use.
I can relate,I had to replace the line from the house to the septic tank,pump it out and install a new drain field,then re sod all the zoysia grass that really took a bit out of my hot rod money. HRP
I decided 2 '40 Sedans was too much for me, Sold one and focusing on the red one in my avatar. Have a rebuilt engine ready to go in, trans freshened up. Before I get to far, I want to replace the R&P with a power one, trying to make this driver friendly so my wife can drive it when we get back to road trips again... hopefully 2018!
I have been in those shoes,we end up with so many projects we don't have the money to concentrate on one car. I remember Deuce Roadster relating the story of how a elderly gentlemen asking him why his roadster was still in pieces years after he purchased it. He looked at Randy's cars,a unfinished big block Chevelle,a big widow F-100,a Chevy II,several bbc engines and a ton of parts. He ask which car was the most important and Randy's reply was the 1932 Roadster and the older gent shared his knowledge to liquidate and pool the money into the deuce. In less than a year Randy had a finished roadster. The moral of the story is not to spread yourself thin. HRP
God's own gospel there, Danny! If I had a few less...(after a multitude of "GREAT DEALS" that would NEVER come again!) I am looking over my nearly-all-collected-for .040" over '46 Merc flatmotor, a 'shakedown mill' for my '27 tub. But I also have the rare stuff now for the 283" Chev originally slated for the "Shakedown Mill" for the tub! The Hemi on the heavy engine stand is a Chrysler, 354", that I have most parts for now. (for my '27 Hiboy roadster) Desoto 276 is waiting...LOL My 406 is all readied for assembly, but that's a separate project. It goes in my '54 Ford Coupe. With a top loader 3 speed, converted with a Jeep tower and 'Cane' shift stick. Just assembly. All monies spent already. (Whew! Ford stuff isn't cheap...) Can't part with any of it, Oh...More stuff arrived for my '55 F100. Yeow!!!!
