Well, your thread got me motivated...the cab is off my '36, guess I'll try to get the engine mounts and tranny Xmember done before the end of the year.
2017 Car wise, not much happened, did not sell, buy or change anything, just polished, enjoyed our two 51's and the car hobby. We did drive them to Cruise's, some shows, had some fun, we have some great car friends. Family wise, health issues dominated most of year for my wife, still having some issues, hoping/praying for a better/health 2018, prognosis is good. I did work on a home improvement project that turned out great and got some things done on my project Midget race car restoration, slowly but surely, it will get done. As always I/We are optimistic on our future, trying our best to enjoy life. The car hobby is a good therapy for me. Now that we are in full Winter, hoping to get out on our snowmobiles and it will get me out in garage, plenty to do there, factor in it takes me forever to get something done, my winter, spring plate is full. Merry Christmas to all !
In '16 I traded away my '31 Tudor for an Austin Gasser and some cash. I've grown to love my little Austin but I was pining for my old Ford sedan. Well, I ran across a '33 pu basket case that I just had to have. This year I reassembled it as is and formulated a plan. It is chopped (poorly) and channeled 2" (not too bad) and my 425 Buick fits nicely. With the doors aligned, the cab marked up and the saws warmed up and ready to re-chop it - my '56 210 came back from the paint shop. So I diverted to re-assembling the '56. Attending our first event with the (almost) finished '56 I ran into the guy who has my old '31 Tudor. He was selling off some cars to pay for a '32 he just bought. I just had to ask and ended up buying the '28 Highboy he was selling. I had sold off my '41 Willys pickup and the money was burning a hole in my pocket - I just needed another old Ford. So another car joined the crowd in my shop. After a little TLC the '28 with it's fresh 283 is a reliable driver. Best of all, the wife loves riding in it. Since I can't leave anything alone, it'll get a 324 Olds, a new earlier front end, Halibrands and a dark blue metallic paint job in the coming year. 2017 was good, 2018 looks like it'll be awesome! Merry Christmas to all and I hope you all have a great New Year. My old sedan with my '56 in the background...... The newest victim; the '28 getting a brake job with the '33 pu in the background......
Got the 57 running and almost driving after many years of owning it, started a half ass build thread on it here and welcomed my third daughter and newest hotrodder Natalie to our lives!! Couldn't ask for a better year! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

First 3/4 of the year was good. Got to do a couple of nice long runs, with the WI Hot Rod Hundred and 2017 Power Tour. Did some shorter ones, and a couple of cruise (parking?) nights. Explored some back roads around the area too. Learned some new things, mostly about brakes, started learning how to weld. Last 1/4 kinda sucked for me, got a nasty bout of sciatica, can’t do much if anything in the garage or basement workshop. Driving hurts. Can’t sit for more than a few minutes without pain, my DD is a manual, and it’s the left leg that hurts the worst. Physical therapy, chiropractic, exercise, stretching, and lots of ice, and it’s getting better, but I’m looking forward to 2018, hoping to be back to normal. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Mark,I think we let Pandora out of the box! The middle finger, long finger or tall finger as we all know is the third digit of the human hand, located between the index finger and the ring . It is usually the longest finger. In anatomy, it is also called the third finger, digitus medius, digitus tertius or digitus III. HRP How is Jim doing these days?
Back home in Connecticut! Doing the summer car shows! Giving the roadster lots of road time with coupe down and out! Road trip to visit Flathead Tommy. Continued!
More car shows into the fall! In this picture she is wondering why the Rims are not RED. She looks much happier in this photo! More road time! This guy is out setting records instead of working on my motor! It's ok it was worth the wait! No this is not my motor! HERSHEY! Another HRP tribute! Motor Back! Up and running! Thanks Ronnie Roadster. Continued!
Back together and running great! On a more somber note my best friend and companion was laid to rest! He gave it a good fight! RIP Scout! All in all it was a good year! Scout was a rescue that we had since he was a year and a half old and lived to 13 and a half. People say our property is like Disney Land for dogs with ponds and woods. Scout had a great life here and was truly loved. Everyone enjoy your Christmas and your loved ones everyday!
ct1932ford, sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel. Dogs are truly our best friends. Didn't do too much car wise in 2017. Finished up my 63 Impala (avatar) a nut and bolt frame off restoration with less then 600 miles since completion. Has all the goodies. Hard hitting 327 .060 over with lots of go fast parts, M21 four speed, Vintage Air, new interior, show paint and all exterior trim chrome plated. One of the nicest 63's I've seen. No plans for future builds. Looking forward to 2018 cruising.
So many fingers so little time! Jim is doing well. He and wife were in Connecticut several weeks back and they look good. Thanks for asking. FYI: Jim just bought a 49 Merc.
Danny, I can see that some of these people know you! I've had a great year putting miles on the 32 and the 51. I started another project that isn't Hamb friendly and it's about to be titled and driven. I'm sure most of you have observed that the people that we meet along the way make the journey worth while.
A little over a year ago I bought a Duvall windshield that I had been watching here on the HAMB for almost a year. Finally I made the owner an offer and the next thing you know, I'm building a car around the windshield( all this makes very good sense to many of us here on the HAMB, right...). I advertised here on the HAMB wanted section thatI was looking for a Wescott Deuce Rdstr body when I got a call from a local HAMBER that tells me he has a Deuce body for sale, but not a Wescott, but a Brookville steel body. Turns out we know each other, but had not bumped into each other for 32 years ! Funny when you don't see somebody for 32 years , and it's kind of an eye opener as to how old we look when you see the other person. You see yourself age slowly over that same span, but the reality is we are both a couple of "old, gray haired hot rodders" today. Anyway we made a deal for the body and the real project was begun. I bought a chassis from a good friend of mine I had put together for him about 5 years ago. Original rails that I put a Deuce Frame Co ( Carl Fjastad )center cross member in with a repro Model A frt and an original Deuce rear ( which I'll be re-moving and replace with a original Model A). I bought a So-Cal dropped axle and have it mounted to the chassis with 34 Ford wishbones using bungs I bought from HAMBER CTaulbert (beautifully made parts, BTW). Decided to give it the "old school look", but with a blown 471 blown , 1962 327 Chevy with a Muncie 4spd and 9 inch ford. The rear end is held in place with a pr of 36 rear bones. I'll be running 56 F100 brakes on the front with drum brakes in the rear. Hoping to be out in this by the end of next season, but if it doe not happen, it won't be the end of the world. I enjoy the build as much as I like driving them. Been a good year.
I got my five minutes of fame. Continued to push the coupe project forward and had a good year with our business. On the right side of the ground so no complaints. next year this little coupe gets to roll under her own power with some maroon paint on her! Well 2017 wasn't crazy eventful for us but we did have some changes and excitements. I changed jobs twice which is very much out of character for me. I usually stay at a job for a long time but in these two cases each change was a step up in pay but less demanding of time. Couldn't ask for more than that. As far as hot-rodding goes, South Dakota is pretty dead as far as events go. My son and I did however manage to cruise down to the Hot Rod Hillclimb in the '51 Hudson. We put 898 miles on the '51 that weekend with no issues. I love that car even more after that trip. The excitement of the year came while at the Tri-State Hotrod Reunion in Julesburg, CO. I was staged and ready to blast down the 1320 when all of a sudden my brake pedal linkage snapped clean off and the car launched. God was surely watching over me that day as that could have turned very ugly at the big end of the track. The two things I have been trying to get accomplished for the last few years still did not happen in 2017. Those are install a roll bar in the '29 and rebuild/replace the posi in the rear-end. We'll see what happen in the new year.
had a hell of a year, bought a 32 3 window, got it tidied up a little till i can get back to it, then got my roadster together for Trog, also took it to Hillclimb, went to a bunch of swaps including hershey, picked up another 3 window too, got a 40 coupe too
Had a great year. Got some work done on my 34 coupe, saw many old friends at the local cruises and swap meets, sold my G-body wagon, got another year older and the biggee...got my title for my coupe in my name...FINALLY! I only hope next year is as good as this year.
...had our cub cruz (20 cars)in October to Savanna Illinois for the "last cruz" over the old iron bridge that was opened to traffic in 1932,...the iron arch on the new one is a tribute to the old bridge... new bridge is taller and wider.
For me this was a great year for my bucket list. Me and my buddies got our 5 minutes of fame in HRD and I bought my dream car. Currently apart for a light mechanical restoration and to put some paint on the body.
A good year, I put about 5000 miles on each of three old cars. Plenty of adventure! and a new adventure is getting started, for next year.
Was hoping to finish the Modified this year but got into finding, restoring and exporting the O/T cars that I run the club for... Did 8 in the year and all but one went to France. Sent from my SM-A520F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app This was the last of them.
I had a great 2017. Recovered from the late 2016 heart attack and bypass, eating better and more exercise. Did a bunch of work on the Ford. New 3.89 posi, new rear leaf springs, new valve covers, electric fan, teardrop scoop, front sway bar and chased little demons on it here and there. Put about 4000 miles on it.
Had a great year...Lots of progress on the A coupe...Finished tearing apart the body..Now it's all blasted ,epoxy-primed and stored away... Finished the initial mock-up on the Brookville frame ( 4" I-beam /hairpins , narrowed 9" ,4-link rear ,frt & rear swaybars )..now it's apart , painted and stored away.. Gathering patchpanels , subrails , roof wood ,etc...Gonna hit it hard starting mid-Januay..hoping for a reasonably fast assembly to get running by Fall '18
