  2. How is the swap meet?

  3. Quite a few empty spots but there were last year also. I am set up in the SM and have done real well for just small stuff. A few really cool cars for sale too.

Just can't handle the TransAm in the background of some pics. However, I love the '33 chevy Coupe. Larry Rhoades' new car? Not sure if I spelled his last name correctly.

  12. I think the Avanti is cool in it's own right, but doesn't have any business being at the NSRA Nats, although I know NSRA has opened it up to just about anything. Quite frankly, I don't think it belongs on a traditional hot rod site, either, but that's just me.

At least the Avanti is a production fiberglass car, unlike the 1,000's of fiberglass 32 Fords in attendance that aren't.... Just saying....

  17. Danny: I did manage to catch up with John around noon today. He was getting ready to get on the road. He told us if He ran @ 80mph He could get home in 7 1/2 hours??? He's 76 if I'm not mistaken. Fun talking to Him. He's been everywhere and done everything. Great guy.

  18. Thanks Al for the pics. I didn't get much time around the cars this weekend.

Went down Friday, missed a couple years. Was a lot of cars that were not my style. But was great weather for Louisville this time of year ,talked to a couple of hamb people. was shocked at the price paid for an '59 Anglia 100e like I have. Set my old ass down at the curb to watch all the cars going out the main gate at closing time and had a great finish for a very good day.

Awesome Chev! Did anyone notice the chromed windshield frame? The Chevy never used one!

I had a good time as always. scored a few items in the swap meet.

next week, I'll be taking the 57 down to Bowling Green for the Tri Five nats

  26. I'd say there's a hell of a lot more off topic than an Avanti built in '63 that gets posted. Well within the cutoff date regardless.

  27. So what you're saying is a shot between the eyes is better than a whack on the head with a 20# sledge. Neither wud be desirable to me and neither are the Gremlin or Firebird in those locations.:(

  28. I hear ya. I'm not that crazy about fiberglass myself, but everyone wants a Deuce and there are only so many gennies to go around. At least they look like a traditional hot rod. A production car has nothing to do with it. Using that premise, I guess you're okay with 1,000 Yugo's showing up at these events and on the HAMB. They're a production vehicle.

  29. So, a '66 Mustang is more off topic than a '63 Avanti or even a '64 Mustang, or pick any other car you think is more off topic. How do you quantify that? Bottom line is, if it's off topic, it's off topic. There is no degree of being off topic. That's like being a little bit pregnant. So what that the Avanti is within the cutoff date. Do you want me to start bringing my '65 Marlin to these events or posting up pix of my '60 Corvair? Hey, that one is even the first year of production. It's rare, man. You're missing the whole point here. You wudn't bring a thoroughbred horse to the National Kennel Club show wud you? You wudn't bring a hooker home to meet your momma wud you? You wudn't have a PBR at the Kentucky Derby wud you? Your lady wudn't wear a baseball cap at the Kentucky Derby wud she? You wudn't enter a peddler's cart nag in the Kentucky Derby wud you? You wudn't bring your Mustang to a Corvette show wud you? You wudn't bring your dune buggy to a Concourse d'elegance wud you? You wudn't bring your P-51 Mustang (that's an airplane for those who don't know) to a Mustang show wud you? Afterall, they are both Mustangs! So why wud you bring an Avanti to an NSRA event or post pix of it on a traditional hot rod forum? What is so traditional about an Avanti? What's so hot rod about a stock Avanti? It doesn't fit the criteria in either case. When Dodge and Plymouth entered their winged monstrosities into NASCAR racing, they had to build 500 of them to be able to qualify them as production cars and eligible to race in NASCAR. The factory didn't say to Bill France, "We're only gonna build 50 of them becuz it's going to be too expensive to build 500 and we don't know if we can sell any of them to the public." 500 was the NASCAR rule, so that's what they had to build to race and they did. Some things are inherently wrong and others are statutorily wrong. Yet, in today's world it seems that nobody cares about the rules, they just do whatever they want. Rules are in place for a reason, i.e., to keep things in order and to make everyone aware of the playing field. I didn't make the rules for NSRA or the HAMB, I just try to live by them.
I wasn't trying to start some shit, I was just making a statement and expressing my opinion, much as I've done here. To that I say, if the shoe fits...
