Any HAMBers out there familiar with 216s? My buddys wont idle, It will start and run with choke on but if you open the choke it dies. He grabbed a carb out of a bone yard and rebuilt it but it has the exact same response, no choke no go. Im wondering if it could still be idle system on second carb? I also thought maybe a leak at intake? any thoughts or common problem 216s suffer from? Oh by the way under choke it will rev up so we dont think its starving. Thanks Ken

  2. :D With the engine running, Check for a vacuum leak. Easy way to do that is take a small propane torch, with out lighting it off, turn the propane on and run it over the area between the head and the intake, also around the carburetor base as well as around any fittings (such as where the vacuum wiper tube comes off the intake manifold). The engine will run a whole lot better when the propane gets ****ed in.

intake manifold uses rings to line up man to head intake port...are they there...sounds like a serious vacuum leak...
Also what is the vehicle?....some 46-48 chevys used a vacuum shift trans and maybe a problem there?...
