Got an issue with the 216 (straight six) in my 52 chevy. I am getting a constant hesitation when I drive the car. It's just a **** load of hoping and poping. I started out with the carb and noticed the amount of rust...so I got a new tank (tank was a mess) and blew the lines out....also took carb apart and did some cleaning (not a complete rebuild). I drove the car a few miles and then it was back to the same hopping and poping....when the car is at rest there is no hesitation...only happens when I put the motor under load. I thought I may have a vacuum leak so I cheacked everywhere...no vacuum leak that I can find. Does any one have advice? I am new to this whole thing and I am not paying somebody to get there hands dirty while I read a Peoples Mag. in the next room....so any suggestions would be appriciated.

Your fuel pump may be full of junk and the lines my be rusty.
Do you have an inline fuel filter?

Make sure that the vacuum advance pod isn't ruptured.

Remove carb and blow out all p***ages as that seemed to fix it before. Then put a inline filter just ahead of the carb.

I think you answered your own question since cleaning things out helped and then it came back. You need to run a good filter right before the carb. Keep a spare in the car as you will need to run it a while to clean out the system fully. It may plug a filter or two before it gets cleaned up.

Fuel pump full of ****. Take it apart and clean it up too. All that **** in the carb had to go through the pump to get there.

Check all the electrical! Timing could be off, bad wires, loose wires, bad distributor bushing, bad ignition wires...start with the easy stuff and eliminate as you go. If fuel delivery isn't the problem, go with timing first. Does the car have a stock wiring harness? Check there, too. My guess is timing, that's what it sounds like to me. Have fun!

Something that happened to the vacuum tubes in my chevy straight 6 was the PCV was bad, so I replaced that and I didn't get any jolting. Hope it works out.
