I just bought a 54 f100 with a noisy lower end 223, stock 3 speed, I went an bought what I thought and was told , another 223 that has been rebuilt with a attached 3 speed ****** with new clutch, but find out now that it is a 215, not a 223. The 223 in my 54 has front motor mounts below the crank pulley that mounts to the front, the 215 has the side dog ears that mount out from the front sides, not sure if the ****** mounts are different from my ****** vs the ****** on the 215, I got dizzy after pounding my head against the garage wall after I realized my mistake, the 215 and ****** are out of a 52 f100, I got the drive shaft from the 52 also, not knowing for sure if the yoke from my 54 will work in the 3 speed ****** from the 52? Is it a matter of timing cover change over or do I have to make brackets out from the frame to go to the dog ear mounts on the 215?
    Thank you for any help,

Swap out the timing chain covers. I had to do that when I put a 61 223 in my '54 F100. Also make sure the bell housing has the mounting ears so you have it mounted at the front and bell housing.

Exactly, everything will swap right over on the front of the motor. The 223 that I put in my F-3 has all the accessories and pulleys etc from the 215 that is came with. The only difference I noticed is that the T-stat housing has 4 bolt holes on the 223 and 2 on the 215 (might be the other way around) But it holds just fine with 2 bolts and some RTV.

So...swap just the the motor, not the trans and check the fit of the "New" clutch with the flywheel and pressure plate. The clutch disc should work, not sure when the changed the flywheel from what is on the '52 and what I found on the '59 year model 223.
