Ok so I searched and found a couple threads related to this but they seemed like the beginnings of a build thread and I didn't want to hijack.

I picked up a 292 Y-Block with water cooled auto trans last week to swap into my 55 that currently has a 223 and 3 spd.

Question is what will I still need to get. Very general question but I'd like to gather most if not everything that I will need before tearing the 223 out. That way with a little luck I can do the swap over a few weekends I stead if getting it halfway there and then stalling out while I have to find some random obscure mounts or something.

    So a few questions.
My engine is a 61 with a 2 barrel and an automatic.
    1. Are the frame mounts for the engine the same for both 6 and 8 cyl.

    2. Are trans mounts between auto and manual in different places? If so can they be swapped out or will I need to fabricate my own?

    3. Firewall clearance?
I know y blocks came in 55's just want to know if I'm going to need to do any cutting/clearancing while the engines out.

    4. I'll be doing the front crossmember too are they the same between the 6 and the v8?

    5. Steering column- keep and modify the std column, fit an auto column, remove the std shifter only and use a floor shifter?

    6. radiator- what fits that may work better or be easier to get than factory?

Anything else I may be missing?
Seems like a pretty straight forward swap since they were availiable from ford that way.

Exhaust will obviously need to be changed. The radiator sits closer to the engine on the V8.
That's a nasty looking Y-block and transmission. I hope it's OK. You'll definitely need to clean it up if it's all good. I'm not 100% but the transmission on the '61 may only be a two speed.

Engine was pretty gross. I have it down to the short block now, it's unstuck, cylinders look pretty good should clean up alright.
I like that I already know the trans and engine work together. It's just going to be a cruiser, so I am planning to keep it simple and therefore reliable.

You'll need new engine mounts, radiator and hoses, throttle linkage, and possibility the trans mount. I did the same swap but I put in a T85 OD and had to fab a different trans mount. While you have access to the engine I'd put in a new timing chain and gaskets. I'm sure there are a couple small things I'm missing but that should get you rolling.

Regarding the transmission, it's hard to tell, with all the dirt but, I think it's a Cruise-O-Matic. If it's a 2 speed Ford-O-Matic, the case will be aluminum.

The case is completely aluminum. Bellhousing, case, and tail shaft housing

When you say engine mounts are you just talking the rubber part that bolts between the engine and car. Or are the mounting location on the car different?

    Jeff- thanks for the link

Just the ones that bolt to the engine. The frame mounts are the same for both engines.
