Hey Guys, I just sold my 57 Dodge Shortbox and i'm still aquiring parts for my T project so I'm staring to work on my 1965 Plymouth. I guess the main question would be what sort of performance mods would you do to the 225 slant six?. Its not the origanel engine as it came out of a 70's RV. How do i tell if it has a "RV" cam ? It runs well and has about 40,000 miles on it gets descent gas milage and its hooked up to a 3speed Torque-flight Tranny.
Any suggestions would be apreciate. Thanks, Gregg (not the guy selling celllphones)

might look for a mopar performance / direct connection catalog.....they used to have a bunch of tech info in them .....might try looking for a body websites....probably a lot of info out there.....also might check on clifford stuff......brandon

  3. Clifford has performance parts for the slant 6. You'd have to know the specs for the RV cam and then use a dial indicator to measure lift on the push rod and use a degree wheel to measure the durations. Personally I wouldn't worry about it too much. If the engine runs well that's a big hurdle jumped. Most RV cams are designed for low end torque, not high RPMs. I'd leave it alone and see how well it does in the Plymouth it's going into. You can always swap in a new cam later if this one's not up to the task.

I have spreadsheet somewhere with id numbers for /6 motors, that I of course cant find. I'll try and find it and email it to you. This link has some good info though http://flag.blackened.net/mopar/slant62.html

Otherwise heres some general info. There are plenty of bolt on parts that will get the /6 moving along. Things to watch out for if doing internal or head mods are the earlier motor vs the later hyd.lifter motor and the 225 vs the 198 motors.

Offy speed parts are still available new as well (2 x 1bbl manifolds that can be milled to put 2 x 2bbls on them, also 4 barrel). There are the factory hyperpak manifolds. You can also get manifolds for tiple sidedraft webers which look really cool!
Extractors/headers are available as is a spilt cast iron manifold called a "dutra dual" from www.dutra.org. You can turbo it http://koti.mbnet.fi/trc/index.htm , supercharge and put efi on it http://www.projectplato.com/cars/bigredhome.html

Basically you can do anything you like to a slant six. They can take a lot of mods. Go over to slantsix.org and search the site. They have a racing forum over there and some guys that have done a lot of mods and know a lot of tricks for getting big performance out of the /6. PM me if you want more links.

Heres a pic of my /6 which is stock internals, with offy 2x1 bbbl (actually the manifold was set for 2 x 2bbls but I adapted it back), dutra duals and a custom exhaust. Just those bolt on parts alone made a huge difference in performance.
    cheers
