I know 2x1intakes are getting harder to find, and to pricey for a poor ol fella like myself. Does anyone know of anyone who will take your stock manifold and make it 2x1? Also has anyone used Red's header for this motor?

You can make your own intake using your old one, and a couple of flanges and short pipes from the muffler shop.

They have good welders at the muffler shop. Get a couple of flanges and short pipes. Figure out where you want the carbs, they must be far enough apart not to interfere with each other. Drill the intake with a hole saw. Contour the pipes to fit the manifold and cut to length.

Once you figure out where you want the carbs you can make a board that bolts onto the original carb flange, drilled for the 2 new flanges. This will hold the new flanges in position while you fit the pipes. It will also hold everything in line until the welder tacks things together.

Brazing may be better for welding cast to mild steel and less chance of leaks. Inspect the welds carefully, they must be air tight.
