    Hi guys
I have a chance of picking up a ford 226. I was wondering what it is worth. I don't want to pay too much for it.

Is it the earlier model ('41-'48) or the later model ('49-'51)? From what little I know, parts availability is difficult for the early models, and not much better for the later models. Unless you have a specific use for it (or a lot of storage space), I'd recommend passing.

Perhaps someone who knows more will drop in later.

  3. Depends on condition and how complete it is. Pictures? WAG would be from scrap price to maybe $300? for a good runner. Not a lot of demand for em...
Look for cracked exhaust manifold, very common on those.

  4. I had a 1951 ford business coupe back in 1961 powered by the 226" flathead 6 cylinder engine. It was a great engine. I never lost a light to light race with it.

  5. If it's a late model (47-51 with side mounted distributor) and complete its worth $200-$500 depending on condition. Don' t waste your money on an early model unless you need it for a specific year (41 to 47). Speed equipment is scarce but still available. I have a 226 in my avatar with a Knudsen aluminum head, Nicson 2 x 1 intake, split exhaust manifold, Pertronix ignition, and 3/4 regrind cam. It runs great and gets a lot of attention. Will run 75 mph all day with a BW overdrive.

    The Ford 6 was/is a great engine.
Like a lot of stuff, when you really need or have to have one they are unobtainable and expensive.
Otherwise, you can’t give one away.
