  3. it's off topic and will get all of this deleted. the 230 is not, so just ask about that

  4. He is saying remove the R word from your post, not loose the truck.

Asking questions about a 230 good asking questions about a late model truck bad. It may get your post deleted. Understand?

Oh and as for your 350 or not question I am MR Small Block, I would stuff a small block in a Mercedes. Nope find a 351 Cleveland, no one wants one and they make good grunt..

If you have a 350, there are probably kits to put one in. Easier, but more money. The 6 will require some fabrication, use 67-72 Chevy truck 6 cyl. engine mounts cut to fit as a starting place. And the normal hop-up tricks-better intake and exhaust will put a little more go in it.

Yeah usually how much go power does one get with a 4barrel intake or a triple carb setup

  8. Well we can be *****s especially when it comes to late model. The scope of this site spans about 5 or 6 decades but it is very narrow. Keep it within our guidelines and we'll just find other reasons not to like each other.;)

I had a 250 Mercruiser. Said 165 horse on the sticker. I had a 4bbl and headers in a 48 Chevy, th350. Ran good, highway and acceleration was fine. I guess it made about 170-175 horse with mods. 230 would be a little less. 4bbl is a lot easier. Look up what a stock 230 makes, compare it to original motor, see if you like or can live with the difference. You're not going to save any money by going with a modified 6 unless you already have all the parts. A 350 is cheaper in lots of ways.

The 230 is the same engine as a 250 only shorter stroke, so all 250-292 aftermarket parts will fit. 283 V8 piston will fit with no modification and will raise the compression about 1 point. They need to be true flat top pistons, the aftermarket universal pistons will raise the compression just slightly due to the valve reliefs and chamfers around the top.
All inline 6 heads about the same, close enough to not make any difference in power. The early 194 inline head will raise compression, but the ports are terrible and need work to add hp.

To big of a cam will kill any low end power you have, so choose wisely.

May not be the cheapest way to go, but the easiest way is small turbo using the engine as it is. Keep it under 7 psi boost and it should live.

I have an off topic late model R and I'd start with a tape measure. Is there room to put a long six where a small V6 was once the largest resident?

If you are broke and have a non running pickup and a good running 230 go ahead. Otherwise don't waste your time. I see you are asking about 4 barrels etc. If you have the dough to hop up the 230 get a better motor. By the way I am a fan of 6 cylinder motors and don't believe in using too big of a motor, but I have a feeling you won't be happy with the performance of this combination. If you want cheap go to work transportation ok, otherwise no.

WHY abort the thing when you can get a 240 or 300 inline or V-6. One BIG change leads to dozens of others that you NEVER thought of... Sounds like a PITA project. :(
