Hey guys please move to the right spot if necessary. Sbc center bolts. I have some 232 Studebaker Valve covers i want to use on my sbc center bolts. How would you add oil? What about breather baffles? These covers only have the holes for the bolts. Will ram horns work on this engine? It's just a stocker converted to carb. >I will not hide the fact that its a chevy and i want the exhaust to be as close to the block if possible. >I want it to look older too. >for you guys that will say to use a 283 ,sure i will trade you a good running 283 for a vortec with new intake/holley/elec fuel pump. Thanks in advance
Drill a hole through the intake , tap it, and screw in a pipe. There are probably places on the manifold that this can be done, most likely is right behind the thermostat housing. Put a baffle on the bottom of the intake and you can use it for venting as well.
All the early SBC intakes had an oil filler/breather pipe and road draft tube. As suggested, use one of those as a pattern and drill/machine your own holes. It's also possible to use the old Offy side breathers, but those ruin the clean look. FWIW, I just went the other way, using fabricated aluminum SBC center bolt covers on a Stude V8. :>) jack vines
Might consider welding up your intake so that you can have a hole machined in it such that the old style front filler pipe can be installed. Then install a one-hole sheet metal valve cover on the pass side which will put the hole back by the dizzy. And a no-hole sheet metal v/c on the other side. Next, install a homemade PCV and hose so that it attaches to a push-in breather cap that has a******* on it so the PCV hose fits. Then just run it to the base of your carb which in my case was in the middle of the front on my old Q-Jet. Worked fine on my 406, but I didn't have a front filler pipe, rather used a second one-hole v/c on the other side which put the push-in oil fill/breather cap in front. pdq67
