You can't use an old torque-tube-type automatic trans with the open driveshaft.

Maybe re-sell the 235, and buy a 1963 or later Chevy six that a TH350 will bolt up to.

What kind of vehicle are you working on?

I've been looking around and I think that after going back and forth 200 times, that this is a chevrolet 341 transmission. Is that the "same" as the muncie 3 speed? THe reason I ask is that Hurst sells a Master Shift Shifter kit that will put the shifter for the 3 speed in the floor

would someone educate me? Ok, from the front to the back...there is a lever sticking out of the bellhousing =?? Then there are 2 small slotted shafts. They =??? from front to back. It has the 4 bolt cover so I'm going with a 341.

The lever in the bellhousing is the clutch release lever. Yes that is the Muncie 341 3 speed. About any universal 3 speed floor shifter can be made to work . A Hurst would be the best working one.

    a very idiotic question here...but this is a 12 volt system for a 1956 235 right?

I think that I still have a cast iron power glide that came attached to a 235 that I bought. Contact me off line if you are interested in this transmission.
