There is a lot of good info on this site but I find that a lot of people try to steer you into their way of thinking rather than giving you information and letting you make an educated decision. So check out this book. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/display_id.2830/itemNo.inline+six+power+manual/qx/Product.htm
It will tell you how to squeeze every ounce of power out out of your six. With the info in this book, you can price the parts and services that will be required to get the results you are looking for. Then you will know if it is worth it or not. I have a 250 bored .60 over with a mild cam, two Dellorto 45drla carbs, 3 speed T350 ******, 38 Ford rear with 4.11 gears I think. It will roast the tires and get to 70MPH really quick. Unfortunately with the low geared rear, 80MPH my motor is wound out. But I'll run it for now till I come across a good deal on a new rear. Hope this helps you out. Here is a wild looking intake for 3 side draft carbs on a six. [IMG]

I own that book. That is the later 6, I have an early six. My issue is cams. I will go with a solid but finding the right rind is hard. Most of the cams are gone and I have no idea where to find a 1950's Full Race or Super Cam anymore.

I'll second this one. I'm building a 223 Ford which is in the same league as the 235 except that go-fast stuff is harder to find. Why? "Cause I want to...... If I can up the stock 135 hp to 175 or 180, I'll die a happy camper...:) If I ****ter it, I will either find another 223 or build a later Ford 6. If everybody here REALLY wanted to be "practical", they'd quit scrounging hard to find (and expensive) parts for early Olds's, Nailhead Buicks, Hemis, Polys, Y-Block Fords, early Caddies, 348 Chevys, Studebakers, Packards, etc etc and drop a SBC or SBF in their rod or Kustom. But it's a lot more fun and personally satisfying to do something different than the next guy or gal.

the reason 235,s came with 3.70 -3.55 gears was the same reason every other car or the same era come with those gears the roads. (before freeways) my 54 chevy p/u had a 87chevy 4th gear overdrive and a 3.36 rear which gave me about a 2.50 final and i loved it . the 235 has a 90lb. crankshaft and loads of torque it doesnt need rpm.
