Finally got my 235 running in my '51 PU but am having fuel issues. I have the small Holley 4-barrel on a clifford manifold. I have completely replaced the entire fuel system - tank, all lines, tried (2) different pumps and filter. The filter is an inline glass unit that never gets much fuel in it. As the truck runs the gas in the filter goes down until the engine starts missing - it never catches up again. The miss is rather sporadic at idle and gets worse as engine speed increases. The engine runs great upto running out of fuel. I have the stock fuel line to the pump but used a 3/8 line from the pump to the carb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am completely clueless where to go at this point.

check the fuel pump first. Take it off and hold your finger over the inlet side of it and then manually ioperate the lever - you should feel a very definate suction. if not, the fuel pump is not working correctly.

The fuel pump is operated off a lobe off the cam - if the lobe is worn, it wont push the lever and therefore wont cause any fuel to be pumped.

Are you sure it is the correct fuel pump and that it is up snug against the block?

The pump appears to be good - it does have suction when manually operated. I also just ran a volume test having it pump into a container with the engine running at about 900rpm. Well over a pint in 35-45 seconds. Would the 3/8" line cause this problem? Would a smaller line result in a little more pressure? Am I right in going after fuel since the filter goes almost empty?
