I installed a dual carb setup with Fenton intake and split manifold. I purchased an install kit from chevs of the 40's and the throttle is backwards give the motor throttle and it pushes the pedal out and at idle it is to the floor have taken it apart three times followed the directions step by step and can't figure it out. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
sounds like the bracket that mounts to the stud on the engine (below the manifolds) is put together backwards/upsidedown??
I've been sick like an idiot so I haven't been over to look but I suspect something easy is backwards.....any other ideas at all?
Just a suggestion. Take a couple of good clear photo's of what work you have completed and then show us so we can make some suggestions. Photos tell us a lot. Once someone sees those then they can try of help you. Normbc9
Pics of the bell crank, return spring, and carb setup hope this helps. Again thanks for any advice. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
From the pictures you've posted, it looks like it should be working just fine. Looking at the bell crank pictures, the return spring is pulling down on the linkage (which I assume closes the throttle plates on the carbs), that downward pull pushes the accelerator rod back into the car, which should push the gas pedal out. So, another question - is there another bell crank type fulcrum inside the car by the gas pedal?
there is another bellcrank on the firewall. Do you still have the old linkage? do you remember how it was installed? you may need to reinstall the stock bellcrank. That kit you bought is generic. They changed linkage many times between 1937 and 1962....
Yes there is another fulcrum on the firewall above the hole for the throttle rod could it be something with that? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
It looks to me like your pulling down on the throttle arms of the carbs? Shouldn't you be pulling them up to operate them correctly? I think, as one has already said, flip the bell crank so the pedal pulls the throttles open. Dom
here is a photo of the stock throttle arm. On my 51, the gas pedal rod goes to the top hole and the carb linkage connects to the bottom hole (the one with the bend)
I'm gonna make a new rod from the pedal to the supplied bellcrank. That will eliminate the bell crank at the firewall. Should work fine and clean it up a bit in there. Nick wants to drive it bad!!!
Called Patrick's and figured my problem out come to find out the 54 block has the pivot for the bell crank to far forward just need to move the pivot back on the block towards the rear freeze plug and I will be back in business!!! Thanks for the advice and pics. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I think flatheadpete's idea will work. That's how the trucks were - when you push on the gas pedal, the rod goes towards the front of the car. In any event, let us know the final results.
