go to an "old book" store and find yourself a used (preferably WELL used, so's you can look like a real wrench-head) MoToRs® Manual and keep it on the shelf for basic stuff like this. I realize that most of us change out nearly everything that the manual covers, but they have a great troubleshooting section in the front that answers about half the questions about why cars won't start - methodical, methodical, methodical, and it's just plain fun to page through there...chuckling over Studebaker rod clearances, or Packard liquid capacities....and the ever-popular DeSoto displacement history page.
